QUESTION:
What's the best way for a teenage girl to loss weight?
I'm 16, I'm also a teenage mom. I had my son two months ago and I'm not sure the best way to loss the weight I gained. Im currently 160lbs and I'd like to get down to 135. I didn't have the best diet before my pregnancy and I don't right now either. I plan on making a permenant lifestyle change so I can be healthy and help keep my son healthy when he gets older. Any tips or anything would be great. Thank you ahead of time.-
ANSWER:
I think you should ask your doctor, maybe she has a special plan/diet but I think its good that you're starting right now because it's much more easier to lose weight at a younger age and start these healthy habits sooner so you'll get accustomed to then quicker. For now I'd say, try not to snack as much (chips, cookies, crackers), exercise (sit ups, etc.) and drink lots of water (since you'll be exercising you don't want to get dehydrated). Hope I helped, good luck

QUESTION:
Will this weight loss plan work for a obese teenage girl?
I need to lose 45lbs in 4 months. I just started eating a healthy diet containing lots of vegetables and taking Phendimetrazine I am also starting to train in boxing very soon (which will be 4xs a week) and I drink plenty of water and I am also 60lbs overweight. Do you think that this plan will help me drop 45 lbs in 4 months and if not how much weight do you think I will lose?-
ANSWER:
I think you may lose weight but there are side effects to taking drugs. Why don't you try something natural? I can recommend something natural and it doesn't cost a lot of money either, but is working very well for me. It is blackstrap molasses, and you can buy it at a health food store (regular molasses is not the same). It is .69 for a one-quart bottle and that should last a whole month if you use 2 tablespoons per day. The only thing about it is that the flavor is quite strong, kind of a bitter taste, but it is the minerals in it. I have lost 3 pounds in 4 days and often forget to eat. I didn't eat breakfast today and had a fresh veggie salad with plain yogurt and herbs for the dressing around 1 p.m. I no longer crave bread or sweets like before either. Do a little research for yourself and check it out.

I would like to loose 20 LBs before school starts August 13th if thats possible.

ANSWER:
Find a good work out gym in your area. And go three times a week. Do not try to fast or skip meals, just change how you eat. By the way congratulations on what you have done so far. Eat Breakfast, like an egg, toast, milk, a cup of oatmeal, skipping breakfast only makes you hungry, and you eat more at lunch. East lots of fruit and vegetables, and broil your fish, instead of frying it. Walk places instead of riding in a car.
Have you had a recent check up at the doctors, if you have not this would be a good idea, to rule out under active thyroid, which can cause you to put on weight. Stay away from soda pop, sugar free too. Carry water with you, so you will not be tempted by soda's. Good Luck, and do not pin your expectations on losing all 20 pounds. You can still take it off, after you go back to school, and be aware you will lose more in the beginning and then reach a place where you just do not lose any more weight for a long time, but keep on, you will pass this place and start to lose again. Try eating the broccoli, cauliflower without butter on them, hard at first, but you will learn to love the natural taste.
My daughter says you need to reward yourself with some sugar free ice cream, every now and then, because if you do not you will become resent full and pig out. Also a good snack is popcorn, with artificial butter.

QUESTION:
teenage girl needing weight loss advice?
Hey guys, I'm a 16 year old girl and I need your help. I have struggled with my weight for sooo long, I mean, ever since I was about 10, I have undergone pressures from my family, especially my dad about my weight. I have tried pretty much everything there is; fad diets, throwing up, starvation, crazy excursive and so on. But nothing ever seems to work and now that it's summer, I really wanna loose some of that weight. So can anyone help me come up with a healthy plan or SOMETHING...ANYTHING that will help me and show results in a 2 month period. thank you!
I usually run two miles almost daily, should I be doing more?-
ANSWER:
Starving yourself will not do the trick. If it was that easy, I'd stop eating. When you starve yourself, your body holds on to all your fat reserves in case you're going to have some sort of famine. It worked for our answers.. its a pain for us :/I used to have a weight problem too but I'm proud to say that i've lost 20 lbs and love my body. The two key elements are eating well and exercising.
Eating well consists of eating a balanced but small meal. If you're doing it the right way and exercising rigorously, make sure you eat a lot of protein but not so much fat or calories (eat egg whites only). Three meals a day with two snacks of a fruit or vegetable no dressing) is fine. You dont want to starve yourself but its ok to be a little hungry. If you're hungry, drink water and ONLY water. You waste so many calories on juices or milk or alcohol, its so not worth it. Juices are ok if they're fresh squeezed.
The best way to drop weight is cardio. Run, do jumping jacks, run, jump rope, run, swim laps, run, and also don't forget to run. You can tone your body with weights, lunges, crunches, etc. Try popping in a workout video every night.
It's supposed to hurt and you're supposed to hate it but trust me it's worth it. You have one body and one life and this is your only chance to be sixteen. Good luck!

QUESTION:
whats a good nutrition plan for a teenage girl?
I'm a small 16 year old girl, a little over 5'3 and weigh some where between 100 to 110 lbs. im not at all concerned with weight i naturally have a fast metabolism. But i just eat what i want when i want and as much as i want (a lot). I want to get proper nutrition, and when i metabolism slows down i want to already be in the habit of regulating my diet so i dont get fat and diabeticy. I remember finding a daily dietary plan for pregnant women for my cousin like blank servings of protean, blank servings of carbs and it gave examples of what a serving could be like blank oz of yogurt or 20 nuts. is there anything like that for small, teenaged non-pregnant girls? i googled it but all i found was stupid weight loss and diet crap. also how much should i exercise a day? how much water should i drink a day?-
ANSWER:
Great questions! You are very precocious and your weight for your height is PERFECT. Eating healthfully and balanced is really not so complicated. You are what you eat! Eat three meals with at least 2 snacks per day. Take in lots of veggies, fruits, 100% whole wheat, seafood, poultry, lean meat and drink at least 4 to 5 glasses of bottled water daily. Be conscious or your portions for instance your protein portion (meat/seafood) should be the size of your palm.Healthy snacks include baby carrots, celery sticks, high fiber crackers such as Wheat Thin Fiber Select Crackers (5-Grain) and WAS Crackers (spread butter thinly on WAS), V-8 Juice, Organic Plain Yogurt (Stonyfield) and/or a drinkable yogurt called KEF (yogurts cousin), 1/4 cup walnuts or 1/2 cup pistachios.
Eat sugar (cakes, cookies, ice cream, etc.) and white foods (pasta, white rice/bread) at a minimum. These foods break down your immune system and work against you. A weak immune system invites diseases.
Be active everyday with cardie type of exercise (dancing, jump rope, bicycle, walking) combined with weight training.

QUESTION:
What consists of a healthy diet for a fifteen year old girl?
(If you want to skip this and get straight to the meat of the question, read the last paragraph.) I'm a fifteen year old girl, and my mother has recently gotten a full-time job. So most of the time, it's just me and my teenage older brothers. We have to make our own meals now, and since we always have people at our house, we don't have enough time between keeping the house presentable and entertaining our guests to make enough home cooked food for everyone. So, we've had a lot of instant meals and fast food lately. The boys seem to do fine with it, but after several months, I'm beginning to have issues. I'm unable to sleep correctly, I'm getting irritable and sluggish, I get sick a whole lot easier, and I'm getting pains that indicate that I am just not getting the right nutrition.
I need to start eating right and soon. I know if I just say "Oh, I'll just eat more vegetables" I'll end up eating one carrot that week and say "Alright, I'm done." I need a plan, but I don't want to set myself up for a weight loss diet designed for women in their thirties. Is there any way I can set up a diet that is healthy and right for me?
I'm not trying to lose weight, I'm just trying to get healthy again so that I can properly function.-

QUESTION:
Quite embarassing weight loss question; please be kind.?
Im a 14 year old girl...
with a BMI of 47.
Thats Horrific, I know. Ive done every diet and exercise plan out there, including some really insane ones, and nothing has EVER helped in the least bit. Ive given the most dedicated part of my being to trying to lose this weight, and no results. I was diagnosed some time ago with PCOS and I know that it might have something to do with not being able to lose the weight I gain like a normal person. I also have medically recognized joint and back problems.
---So, after a long talk with my mother, I decided that I was going to appeal for a Lap Band Procedure; any opinions?----
Ive only decided to go the extream route with surgery because I need an absolute restriction as far as eating, and because of all the reasons above.
I NEED to lose this weight. I cannot live a normal teenage life, and my body is suffering in many ways.Any input would be lovely.
I’m not looking for a "magic cure" or an "easy way out"! The only reason I’ve considered something like this is because I’ve been morbidly obese since I was 5 years old and have tried SO DAMN HARD with EVERYTHING me or my doctor could think of. I AM NOT a silly little child who stopped playing Xbox long enough to search for a quick solution. I have more than suffered with constant exercise and dieting as my daily routine, not wanting to dare eat ice cream in the summer or have a slice of pizza at a birthday party. Not on and off. EVERYDAY since I was 7. I have been more than patient and disciplined and how dare the lot of you who automatically assume I just rolled my fat ass out of bed and decided "Gee, I don’t feel like the treadmill... how about major surgery??" You're just making yourself sound downright stupid by assuming the worst of people so quickly. I wasn’t asking for the approval or the twisted stuck up opinion of some of you. I just wanted feedback on post-surgery life.-
ANSWER:
had the lap band and lost over 80lbs. I had the surgery at the age of 28. I was successful but will tell you it still really, really difficult. Just as difficult as diet & exercise. You can still eat around your band and not lose any weight. I had to have my band removed because it eroded into my stomach. It was absolutely the most painful experience of my life. I had to have to surgeries because of the complication. That being said, I miss my band and would have it put back in again if I could. To those who say it's the easy way out have no idea what they're talking about. There's nothing easy about it. I know you don't want to hear this but 14 years old is WAY to young for this surgery. I doubt you'd find a surgeon who would perform the surgery and if you did, I'd be cautious about his ethics. You should be at least 18 years old. I knew a woman who have PCOS and other major health problems related to her weight. She hired a personal trainer and met w/ a nutritionist weekly and was successful. It took her months to see results but after a year, she was getting slimmer & healthier. Perhaps you should try a trainer and nutritionist before the surgery. You'd have to seek help from a nutrition expert even if you have the surgery. And you'd need to learn to exercise effetely regardless. I know how much it sucks to be a fat teenager. I was and I know what you are going through. If you have any questions about the band feel free to email me. Good luck to you on whatever route you choose. Life does get better as you get older. Even if you don't lose weight or as much as you'd like....exercise & eat a healthy diet. It will make you feel better, emotionally & physically. You'll eventually learn to love yourself.

QUESTION:
Diet and Exercise Plan For a 280 Pound Teen?
ok, I am just going to come out and say it. I am a 5 foot 11 inch 16 year old female, and I weight 280 pounds. I am so tired of my health problems, so now I want to make a change! I've searched, but It seems there isn't a single free weight loss program intended just for teens anywhere on the internet! I mean, I think that is just wrong! Not all teens are anorexic!I have been quite big since I was a baby, and I never really cared what I looked like until middle school. Then, I started to notice how slim, fit and beautiful all the other teenage girls were. When I looked down, I noticed that I was at least twice the size of them, my skin was full of pimples, and I had more health problems than a 60 year old. . .
Right now I suffer with high blood pressure, and it is a horrid thing to have when your a teen. You can't do much without getting a head rush and falling over. The worst part of being over weight in high school is that you can't do sports. Cause of the health problems!
I know. . . Being over weight is my own fault. I am so lazy. I hate doing anything that involves physical exertion. That and my eating habits are clouding my chances at having a good senior year next year! So, now I have decided to make a change and do something to get the weight off and get healthy by the time senior year rolls around.
I'll try every healthy habit to get in shape for my adult life! I'll start counting calories and exercising on a daily basis. Anything to get healthy, but the one thing I will not do is go on a crash diet and exercise all day every day! I want to lose the weight fast, but I also want to be an all around healthier person, and keep the weight off for life.
There has to be someone out there who specializes in health plans for obese teens. There has to be someone out there who understands. There has to be a Jillian Michaels for teens! I mean, she is my hero. If I could be as fit as her, I would be the happiest girl in the world. Of course, you'd hear that phrase if you were asking for a million dollars, but SERIOUSLY! I would take the opportunity to work with Jillian Michaels over money!! Wouldn't you rather get fit, happy, and healthy before you worry about money?
Please! I am so desperate. I am embarrassed to go to my mom now out of the blue and ask to go to the doctor to get a diet and exercise plan now. Not after the many times I've turned down her offers to get exercise equipment and go to see a dietitian. I need some suggestions to experts' and doctors' websites that offer some professional advice to teens. Maybe you know of a free Health Plan online for teens that I could check out! Anything to help me get myself together!
I truely appreciate your help. You don't know how much it means to me.
-
ANSWER:
I think your mom would be proud of you if you wanted to get a plan from the doctor, but for now, here are some suggestions. For diet, I'm no expert, but try to eat things closest to how God originally made them. Nuts, vegetables, fruit, fish..all very healthy. And drink only water if you can, and maybe the occasional apple or orange juice. Eat only 3 or 4 times a day. Also, brush your teeth after each meal or snack. Something about having a lasting food taste in our mouths makes us want to eat more. For fitness, I'd like to think that I'm much closer to an expert. Running is always the best for slimming down, but it may be intimidating to you. Try just jogging in place in your living room for 10 minutes without stopping while you watch tv. No need for shoes, fancy clothes, people watching. There's no way to procrastinate. Just jump up and do it. During the commercials on tv, do small quick excercises, like jogging in place or high kicks. You also need to try to get in each muscle group worked out every day. Here's a list of the best, no equipment needed exercizes for each group:
Back of arms (triceps): Put your hands on a low surface (like a couch or the bottom step of the stairs) and put your feet together on the ground in front of you. Lower your body to where your bottom almost touches the floor, and lift back up. Do 20 reps a day.
Arms and chest: Do pushups. Not girl pushups. Do 10 a day.
Abs. Here's the doozy for girls. Do ALL of these a day if you eventually want a flat stomach. :
1. Regular crunch. Lie on the floor with your hands behind your head and lift your shoulder blades off the ground. Don't let your chin hit your collarbone. 40 reps a day.
2. Side crunches. For left, assume same position as regular and bring right elbow to left knee. For right do the reverse. Do 20 reps of each a day.
3. Lower ab crunches. Lie on your back with your feet straight above you in the air and touch your toes. 20 reps a day.
4. Lower ab side crunches. (After you've lost some weight, you can replace this for Side crunches (#2) some days.) Assume position of lower ab crunches and reach for the space beside left foot 20 times, then right 20 times (daily).
5. Vertical cut crunches. (Also add this in after you've lost some. Don't want to overwhelm you at first.) Lie on your side. Prop yourself up on the elbow and knee closest to the ground, letting the other leg and arm extend straight. Pull the extended arm towards your back, 10 reps a day on each side.
Hips: Lie on your side and pull one leg up until its perpendicular with the floor. 50 reps each side.
Butt: Lie on your back with your feet firmly planted on the ground. Raise your pelvis. 40 reps.
Butt and legs: Get on your hands and knees. Lift your bended leg. 20 reps each leg.
Legs: Again, get on your hands and knees. Straighten one leg. Lift it. 20 reps each leg.
Inner thighs: Lie on your back with your legs bend and your knees straight up, your feet not touching the floor. Lower your knees to the sides of you til they almost touch the floor, and bring them together again. 50 reps.

Attention All FEMALE TEENAGE DIETERS!?
Hopefully, if you're reading this, you are a girl, an adolescent, and on a diet or thinking about going on a diet. If you're not, I think you may be pretty bored reading this. So, girlies. Thought about going on that 3-day diet? Maybe you'll just reduce your calorie intake to 700 a day, and up the exercise. Want to go on that new diet everyone says works? Well, let me tell you something, honey. IT DOESN'T.
Achieving healthy, slow weight loss is about a complete lifestyle turnaround. No fad diet or starvation period is going to help you lose weight for good. To lose weight, follow this simple equation. Calories out > Calories in. See? Easy.
Your body burns about 1300 calories just existing. Add to that the "daily grind," and you've probably already burned around 1600 calories. Check out http://www.sparkteens.com for articles, nutrition plans, and tips for HEALTHY weight loss.
Yes or no: Would you like to lose weight and keep it off?
Note: This is not an advertisement for SparkTeens, and I am in no way getting paid for this. I'm just someone who's getting a little tired of people in the "Diet and Fitness" section of Y!A asking for absolution eating 500 calories a day.If SparkTeens is not the right program for you, I still hold that you should lose weight the healthy way, as opposed to starving yourself just so you can either develop an eating disorder or gain all the weight back later.

Hi Luv-2-be-luvd. If you are looking for a weight loss plan then you need to be quick about it if you want to beat your summer rush.Your best bet right now is to adjust your diet. Eat less of fatty food, eat more vegtables, drink lots of water and do what I call stair climbing or stair running for at least 30 minutes a day.
The most important consideration is your diet. Fine, I know you do not want to buy anything online, but you need to do a bit of research to educate yourself about diets out there that will suit you.

QUESTION:
What should a teenage girl runner be eating?
I'm soo confused lately about what and how much I should be eating! I am a fifteen year old, 5 foot 1 inch, 89 lb girl. I run track and cross country for my high school year-round. This means running six days a week for 30 or more minutes (workouts, races, long runs) with one rest day on Saturdays. Lately my coach and parents have been concerned that I weigh almost too little and need to put on more weight since I lost about 10 pounds since January. The problem is that instead of getting a diet plan set up for me like my mom promised after my coach confronted her about the weight loss, she just buys high-calorie foods and tells me to eat them. It makes me feel gross to eat so many bagels, cookies, and nut breads!! I would like to know about how many calories I should be getting in in order to maintain about a 90-95 weight and to keep myself healthy! I don't want to pass out during a race or anything but shoveling down junk food just doesn't make me feel good and I find myself not eating at all in order to avoid the junk. Thanks for the help!!-
ANSWER:

QUESTION:
Overweight teenage girl
?
Ok, I wanna use the rest of this year to really lose weight and get in shape. I'm gonna be eating fruits, vegetables, whole wheats, low fat dairies and lean protein sources (I'm a vegetarian for my own reasons, not weight loss reasons. I don't eat fish or eggs, nor do I eat beans, chick peas or lentils cause I don't like them
) so I eat tofu and Morning star vegetarian food and nuts and 1 tablespoon of peanut butter on my fruit, and I drink at least 3 liters of water and green tea. I'm totally cutting out soda and sugar and I'm going to watch my calories and make sure I eat no less than 1200 a day.**I cannot go outside and run because I live in a really dangerous neighborhood, I don't go to public school and I can't go to a gym, participate in sports, martial arts, etc etc. I can only exercises INDOORS**
I wanna lose 30 pounds and gain some muscle tone and get in pretty good shape by the end of this year. This is a lifestyle change, not just a diet plan either.
I also will be giving myself a light cheat meal once a week. Probably a skinny cow ice cream or something like that.
I'm 5'2" and 140 pounds. I wanna be 110 - 117 by the New Year.
For exercise, here's my plan:
1. This may sound silly, but my sibling and I like to pretend we're performing on stage like a band or something, and we just sing along to songs, but I do alot of running, jumping and dancing. It;s usually about an hour to an hour and 20 mins we do that, and I don't jump and stuff the whole time, I gotta catch my breath a little and all.......so it's probably around 30 - 45 minutes of that.....(it's fun so I'm more likely to do it and not get too bored or anything) ----- I do that about 5 times a week
And then after dinner I do my Jillian Michaels 30 day shred DVD. I'm going to do every level or 2 weeks, not just 10 days. I may do level 1 for less than that because it's a lot easier and I don't want to be wasting time. And then If 10 minutes on my treadmill and sometimes 10 minutes of stair walking, sprinting up the stairs, and walking back down. I do this if I have enough time to, and I'm gonna try to do the treadmill every night, and after two weeks, add another 5 minutes to it, and then after two weeks, another 5, etc etc, until I can get up to 30 mins straight on it.
I also do chores, some dancing, and I wrestle with my sister sometimes, too.
Breakfast: Usually a whole wheat bagel (110 calories) with one tbs of peanut butter and some fruit
Snack: A piece of fruit, a carrot, or a handful of almonds (1/2 serving - 12 almonds, 75 calories)
Lunch: Either a fruit salad with another 1/2 serving of almonds or a sauteed vegetables (cooked in water) with a little bit of seasonings, top with 1/2 serving of low fat mozzarella cheese (40 calories) with some Morning Star chicken strips on the side (140 calories and 23 grams of protein per 12 strips and I usually eat 6 -
Snack 2: More fruit or vegetables
Dinner: A large salad with lettuce, onion, frozen mixed veggies, 1/2 serving of low fat mozzarella cheese (40 calories) and Morning Star chicken strips (6 -
with some fruit and/or nuts with it (again, 1/2 serving of almonds - 75 calories)I also drink 2 - 3 liters of water everyday, and green tea!
My Morning Star Chicken Strips are artificial! NOT REAL MEAT.
Does this all sound good?

ANSWER:
That sounds like a good plan to me! You might want to incorporate some strength training (crunches, lunges, squats, push ups, etc) every other day into your exercise regime, though, to try to minimize muscle loss. The only major issue I have is the calories. I know a lot of places online say don't go under 1200/day, but that's for adults! Teens actually need MORE! Insane, I know, but our "minimum" is actually around 1800. I wouldn't drop much lower than that. All of those harmful things you hear about when people warn you not to go under 1200? That'll happen to teens if they go under 1800 or so. 1700 might be enough for you though; just don't aim for 1200, that will put your body into starvation mode.
Be healthy and happy weight loss! Good luck!

QUESTION:
is this a good plan?????????
Put more energy out of your body than you put in it.This way, you can eat what you want as well, as long as you know how many calories it has. Teenage girls are supposed to have about 2200 calories, so why don't you aim for 1500 or something? Cardiovascular exercise will make it go even faster. Aim to lose about 2 pounds a week.
Drink lots of water, fill you up and it sort of gives you the impression that your flushing junk out of your system. Also, water sort of loosens up the fat cells and makes them less sticky so they can slide off you more easily, if that makes sense.
Just be active with everything you do. If you ahve the choice of elevator or stairs, take stairs. If you watch tv for an hour a day try and do something at the same time. step on and off a pile of books, jog on the spot, jumping jacks...
Chew gum (sugar free, a dental kind). It burns 10 calories an hour (not great, but it adds up), and it puts you off wanting to eat (everything will taste minty right?)
Be safe - don't make yourself feel unwell. If you're getting headaches and feeling tired then you're not eating enough. Take in plenty of vegetables and fruits to keep your vitamins up. You're body needs to be healthy and work efficiently to lose weight.
Trampolining and walking are good, but there are much more effective ways to lose weight. Try going for a jog, a swim or bikeride. Most of your body's muscles are in your legs, so doing things with them burns the most calories. Try to do 20-30 mins of one of those every ohter day. In the day between that, do some sort of muscle, toning exercises. Sit ups, that sort of thing. So when the weight does come off you have a toned body underneath.
Eat dinner early. Otherwise you dont ahve a chance to burn it off.
I you didnt wanna hear the diet and exercise thing but it really will work because it has to. It's like a law of physics your body cannot do more work than the energy it has to do it. If your food is 1500 calories and your body has to do 3000 calories worth of exercise, it will break down the fat. (Make sure you do do those muscle exercises too, otherwise your body might break down muscle).
Dont starve yourself you'll slow your metabolism, and so slow your weight loss too.
Well done for your progress over the summer just keep it up.
