The sheer number of different dieting ideas in today's market can be extremely overwhelming, especially to people who need a customized, effective diet plan and have not been able to find one. A person can get easily discouraged when a diet that has worked for a friend doesn't work when the person tries it himself.
Dieting is, in essence, a method to ensure the appropriate foods are consumed for normal bodily functions. The main caveat is that food should not be consumed in excessive quantities, which will cause the calories and sugars to be turned into fat cells and stored in the body.
For weight loss to be effective those following weight loss programs need to stick to the diet specified and take regular exercise. There can be no diet that will work for everyone since we are all different and rules can be hard to follow, is there such a thing as fat loss for idiots?. The diet for idiots was created with this in mind. Diet for idiots seeks to allow weight loss for idiots by combining the best feature of many different diets. This is the diet for idiots main feature.
One of the main factors which cause the plan to work consistently is that the plan rotates through all these different eating styles so that the body is allowed to get the nutrients it requires for it to function on a daily basis, whilst remaining healthy. The diet plan is an ideal one.
Without the use of many different diet plans there would not be much merit to the plan because most diets that are in existence always omit something or encourage over eating something. For instance a low carbohydrate diet encourages the removal of a large part of your carbohydrate intake.
The other side of diets to be avoided excessively are protein rich diets. Such high protein diets have a property such that they are consumed more in quantity by a person than his normal counterpart. When a high protein containing diet is administered, a person on diet is encouraged to take liberal proteins instead of taking more carbohydrates and fats.
The main motivation behind the diet for idiots is that there is no perfect cure-all diet that can work for everyone in every circumstance. This is a diet plan promoting weight loss for idiots. It combines different diet styles in order to achieve easy fat loss for idiots. One of the main factors which cause this plan to work consistently is that it cycles through various eating styles so that the body is allowed to get the nutrients it requires for it to function on a daily basis, whilst remaining healthy. This diet plan is an ideal one.

QUESTION:
where online can I find free weight loss menus and diet plans?
nothing too elaborate like weight watchers or jenny craig. Just some healthy meal plans/guides of things to eat during the week that are low in fat and calories. Specifically, 1300 calorie plans would be good, and like I said nothing I have to pay for.-
ANSWER:
Fruit and Whole Grains: belong to the group of complex carbohydrates. Your body digest those slower than simple carbohydrates like white sugar, rice and potatoes. Eat a small piece of dark chocolate or have a cup of milk to calm cravings.Cooked Food vs. Processed Food: Avoid processed foods, as they are often high in salt and sugar and preservatives to prolong shelf-life. Fresh, cooked food has fewer calories and lacks the harmful additives of heat-and-eat processed foods.
Go Organic: Organic is not just the hottest fad in town, but it is the way to go. Organic fruit, vegetables and milk, eggs and meat, retain more minerals and vitamins than their counterparts which are often treated with pesticides, or hormones. I rather pay a little more for meat, milk and eggs from animals that are treated humanly.

ANSWER:
To lose weight successfully, you should know:Low Fat Foods DON'T WORK.........
You cannot lose weight using Low Fat Diets. Low fat foods have been popular for more than 15 years, but yet our society is getting more overweight as each year passes. This fact alone should tell you that eating a purely low fat menu is not the answer to losing weight.Low Calorie Diets DON'T WORK........
You won't lose weight using a Low Calorie Dieting Plan either. In fact, eating low calories is the worst thing that you can do to your body, since that will only slow down your body's fat burning engine and ruin all chances of losing weight (low calorie diets may allow a few pounds of weight loss for the first few days, but then after that all weight loss comes to a halt --- known as a dieting plateau). You can never get slim by starving yourself.Low Carb Plans DON'T WORK.......
You'll probably find it extremely difficult to get slim using a Low Carb Dieting Plan. Low carb diets have recently become popular over the last couple years, but the problem with low carb menus is that they are too strict and TOO HARD TO FOLLOW for average people. Low carb menus tend to rob your body of too much energy (carbohydrates) and make it nearly impossible to remain on the program for very long. This is why so many dieters find it difficult to follow a strict low carbohydrate menu.In fact, the food that you eat can either make you THIN or FAT!!!

A good Weight loss diet?
I am 14 and i am 76kg with a height of 173cm. I am not obese and carry the weight OK but i would like to loose somewhere around 20kg. I dont want a diet that is unhealthy, and i dont want a superfast one, but i would like to have the weight off by christmas. I already do a ton of sport - thats not the issue, it's the food. Is there any free online diet plan that works and would be good for me?-

I find that drinking water helps a lot in shedding weight. It isn't so much the water but the lack of sugar that's in drinks that does it.
I also walk whenever I can. Walking is very good for losing weight, so is eating less,.. Try it.

I'm looking to find an online weight loss program which offers a diet component (meal plan, recipes, information about healthy food choices), exercise (customized workouts which are tailored to a person's fitness level), professional support (access to registered dietitians, personal trainers, etc), a thriving community (support boards), and little challenges to keep me motivated and continuing with the program. QUESTION:
Anyone got a suitable weight loss plan for me?
I'm looking for a plan to lose weight, this is kind of embarrassing but I'm just over 60kgs. And even though my BMI shows that my weight is normal, I still want to lose the weight but I mainly want to firm up my butt, hips and around my waist and I'd like to have a flat stomach. The problem is that I come from Asia and most of the diet/ weight lose plans that I've seen online all require you to eat Western Food. So even if I get the ingredients, I don't know how to prepare the food. I'm looking for a diet plan where they only require you not to eat certain foods, but if possible, not one that requires you to prepare specific foods. Also I'm still in school and I'm currently studying Standard 8, so I cant spend too much time on exercise. (I also am not allowed to go to gym, so any exercises that I can do in the comfort of my own home is appreciated.) I know what I'm asking for is a lot and perhaps a bit ridiculous but if you think you have a plan that might be suitable for me, please let me know asap! Thanks in Advance!-

I already know what exercises I will do and how to eat well. I just want to lose 20 pounds. Any suggestions?

QUESTION:
Would people enroll in an online weight loss plan?
Hey,I'm a personal trainer starting up a website focused on helping people lose weight over the internet. I want to be able to have them fill out a questionaire. Then with that info create a diet and workout routine over 3 months. I would track their progress every two weeks and adjust their program as necessary. It's a minimum of a 30 pound weight loss or their money back. I've been training for 12 years and have been thinking about this for awhile. Do you think anyone would actually purchase that kind of plan?
and how do u think I can get the word out?-
ANSWER:
yes, if you spend a lot on advertising, and I mean a lot. Otherwise, no one will know about it, and there is a lot of competition: slim world, weight watchers, sparkpeople, et cetera.

QUESTION:
What are good resources for a balanced vegan weight-loss diet?
I have been a vegan for about 4 years, but I am still significantly overweight. I recently joined a gym, but I need help with my eating habits. I don't eat sweets very often, but I am sure I overdo my carb intake. There are so many resources online that help plan out healthy meals, but I cannot find anything for vegan meal plans. I really need help balancing my diet. I live in a very small town, and there are no specialty stores here. Even finding tofu can be daunting. We have basic fruits and veggies (the most exotic fruit I have found at the grocer is a mango). Thank you!-
ANSWER:
First: Congratulations on being vegan!
Eating carbs is the easy way out! Believe me, I know! You should try to more beans, mushrooms, whole grains, nuts, and of course fruits and vegetables. The key is to make sure you are eating enough of those things so your body is not craving vitamins...because when it does the first thing you run for is chips, bread and any other carb you can get your hands on. I find that eating fruit in the morning (as much as you need to feel satisfied) is really helpful with boosting the metabolism! You poo more too! I like eating a small amount of nuts, along with veggies and hummus, and maybe a few flaxseed chips as a snack before lunch. I also like to pop corn on the stove, and season it with nutritional yeast, salt and pepper and use vegan butter, like Earth Balance.
Check out some recipes:
http://www.simpleveganrecipes.co.uk/If you don't have much time (or you're lazy like me) the best thing to do is buy frozen veggies like broccoli, avacodo, beans, medleys, corn, peppers, onions, artichoke hearts, or whatever you like; season the veggies and eat them in a wrap. I also eat vegan burgers in wraps....so good!
Good luck! Don't give up! What you are doing is a great thing and the world could use more vegans!

QUESTION:
Why am I losing more weight than the weight loss calculators predicted?
Before I came up with my weight loss plan, I utilized about 5-6 different weight loss calculators online, all of which asked me for my sex, age, height, weight, activity level, and the amount of calories per day that I planned to consume. I put everything in, and said that I would be eating about 1000 calories per day. All of the calculators told me that I would lose about a pound a week. Even the other types of calculators that asked for your weight goal and time told me that I would have to eat about 1000 calories per day to reach my weight loss goal.So why am I losing 4 pounds a week on this diet plan? I'm not being more physically active.
-
ANSWER:
It sounds like you are basically starving yourself. A lot of your initial weight loss may be water. Also, those calculators may be telling you what is a healthy and sustainable weight loss rate. It's hard to say, really. If you continue to lose weight at this rate, I would talk with a Doctor.
Also, it really is in your best interest to start incorporating some low-impact activities, like walking for 30 minutes every day.

QUESTION:
WEIGHT loss??!!?
i am age 12 and i am not satisfied with my body. i i am about 5 feet and 3-4 inches, and weigh 105 pounds. now, i play tennis about everyday, so i am very active. i want to lose my fat and gain muscle..and diet plans that have helped anyone? also, i dont know understand alot about carbs and proteins, i look online but its a bit complicated. anyone willing to say how many calories or carbs should i eat a day???please, nobody tell me i dont need to lose weight. i am not doing this cause of my appearance in the mirror, i am doing this for my sport. so typically my questions are:how many calories/carbs should i eat a day?
how many times should i work out a day and how long?
any websites that helped anyone?-
ANSWER:
I don't think you need to lose weight. But if your not happy with your body, I would suggest eating more fruits and vegetable, cut out all chips, cookies etc. Since you are an athlete, eat the white part of an egg (it has tons of protein) not the yellow. Eat more meat. NOT BACON!!!! Eat things like tuna or turkey and things like that.
Workout for an hour and a half at least four times a week.
You should be getting 2000 calories a day.

QUESTION:
Weight loss/muscle building plans that actually work?
Hi, I'm about to turn 16, I'm about 6 feet and 190 lbs. I've started regulating my diet for the past few months, and I've seen a slight decrease in stomach fat and thigh width. A few weeks ago, I decided I wanted to get serious, so now I have a gym membership (which right now means treadmill access, an old ab lounge and a weight machine that has full functionality save the pull-down and bench press lol) and I've been using it. But when I look online for weight loss and muscle building plans, the information is either extremely hard to understand, or contradictory to other information. Can someone direct me to a website that has proven affective for a beginner?-
ANSWER:
You are unique as are we all. You have special needs, circumstances, predilections, penchants, etc. as do we all. You are also young so now would be a good time for you to begin the education which will guide you through a lifetime of good health and fitness and it's not going to be as easy as going to one "best for everyone" website as none exists. You need and education and that means work.Unfortunately there is more bad info floating around than good. That means that you need to find the most authoritative sources available to you. If I were you, I would get on the phone and start calling people. Most people fail to appreciate how much free info they can get from just calling people and asking questions. A good place to begin would be your family doctor. You might make and appointment and talk with him directly or just talk to the staffer who answers the phone. Tell them you're interested in learning about health, diet, fitness, etc. and need referrals and/or recommendations. Continue this process with everyone you can think of including the physical ed staff at your local schools, nutritionists at the local hospitals, trainers at the sports gyms, physical therapists at clinics, etc. Read books. Ellington Darden and Art Jones have some good material but stay away from muscle magazines and commercial publications which are trying to sell you something. Surf the internet but be careful, think critically, and always be skeptical. Check out the medical websites which also try to promote healthy lifestyles such as the Mayo Clinic but avoid obviously commercial sites such as GNC and their garbage supplements. Study kinesiology and anatomy. Eventually you'll begin to see the truth shine through the bulls**t.
The basic facts are simple. You lose fat by reducing your caloric intake to something below your caloric expenditure. If you do that, you have to lose fat. You build muscle by subjecting the muscles to increasingly greater loads and then letting them rest so they can grow. Of course there's a wealth of information beyond that which awaits you. Now go to work and get the education. No one is going to do it for you because it's not their body, it's yours.
Good luck!

QUESTION:
How can I get motivated and stick to a weight loss plan if I have no support system?
I'm 22 years old and weigh 251 lbs. I'm a stay at home mom, and taking online classes, so I don't have much time on my hands. I always plan diets and exercise routines, but never stick to them. My husband doesn't understand one bit. He says that I look fine and he loves me and finds me sexy no matter what I think about myself. I love him dearly, but he just doesn't get it. We never have time to exercise together because we have 2 kids and he works 40 hours a week.I have one friend, and she used to be big like me, but her boyfriend left her and she just quit eating and was really unhealthy for a long time, but now that she's lost 100 lbs, she's eating healthy and keeping the weight off. I just can't do that. Even if I wanted to stop eating, I don't think I could. I know it's unhealthy and that's not the route I want to take.
I just don't have the willpower to do it on my own. I have no help, and I desperately need to lose weight. I can't afford a gym membership and even if I could, I'd never have the time. I've always had really bad eating habits. I almost never eat anything before dinner, simply because I'm not hungry. Then it seems like I'm hungry all night long. I just don't know how to get started on a weight loss plan that I will stick to. Any advice will be appreciated.
-
ANSWER:
You and I sound so much alike, 'cept I have 4 kids, and are a 'bit' older. My starting weight was 266 and I am down about 20 pounds in 10 weeks. (I took time off when we were on vacation.)I have two things that have been helping me.
1) There is an online site called www.fitday.com. It can help you set weight loss/caloric intake/exercise goals, then help you track how you are doing with those goals. It will tell you how many calories you need per day to maintain or lose weight. You can input what you eat and how much you exercise (if any) then it tells you how many calories you have burned and how many you have left. It is free for the basic site but you can pay a monthly fee for some upgrades. I am sure there are other sites that are like this one, if it doesn't appeal to you. There are online support groups too, but I haven't tried one of those yet.2) I have been using the SlimFast 3-2-1 plan. (THREE 100 calorie snacks per day, TWO of their meal bars/shakes, and ONE regular dinner per day.) It was really hard for the first couple of weeks, but has been getting easier. The main thing is that YOU HAVE TO EAT throughout the day. You may think you are doing good by not eating until dinner, but then your body is starving and you end up eating everything you see. You need to eat starting first thing in the morning to make your metabolism start burning calories -- hungry or not! The fitday website helped my track the snacks/meals too.
One thing that I had to realize is that this is going to be a longterm mission. I didn't get this way in a few months, so I cannot get 'slim' in a few months. This is going to take a while. To be honest, I was too heavy to do much exercise other than trying to haul my behind around the block each evening. Now that I am down a few pounds I am able to move a bit more, so I am expecting a bit more 'forward progress.'
If this old lady can do it, so can you!

QUESTION:
Can anyone recommend a good diet plan where I could find free menus and recipes online?
I need to lose a considerable amount of weight, and I've always had issues with energy. Because I've gotten out of the habit of eating regular meals and only usually eat one large meal a day, it's going to take me some time to get into the swing of a diet, but I just haven't found any yet that seem they would work for me. I just need some energy and some good quality weight loss. I would be willing to commit some time to it if I found something that would help with the energy - not looking for fast weight loss. ANSWER:
Hi
The way to lose weight is not to try following these faddy diets that either cost loads or the meals cost loads, who could really keep that up?
Think back to what you a doing differently now, since you started gaining alot of weight. Are you spending more money on sweets, crisps, or spending more time sitting around on computers and not actually moving about that much unless you have to for school? The only real way to lose weight is to eat less calories (Energy in your foods) than you burn everyday.
http://caloriecount.about.com/ is a free website that may give you some tips and guidelines, BUT if you want to lose weight, add more activity to your everyday life, walk to school instead of a lift, find an active hobby you enjoy, (Netball, dancing, skating... there's loads out there, or even walking your own or a neighbours dog)
try to stay away from foods that you know are full of calories or fat, (Look at the nutrition labels and if snacks and processed foods have more than 4% fat per 100grams its too high... chocolate, cakes, pastries, biscuits, and limit foods you think you might eat too much of to lower amounts, say 2 slices of bread a day instead of more, one portion of cheese a day. (Bread, cheese, meat... )It is very hard to lose weight, the hardest bit of it all is to keep sticking to it everyday, but if you really want to lose some, the only person who can do it is you. You will have days that you eat too much and feel you have "Blown everything" but when a day or mealtime happens to go over the top and you eat far too much - you have to carry on like it didn't happen as soon as you can. Thats the only way you wont "Blow it"
Very good luck with whatever you decide, Its a long slow process but the weight didn't suddenly appear over-night so it wont disappear over-night either.
It is worth it, I've lost 4 and a half stone and I promise you its worth it.

QUESTION:
Eating & Dieting...Question about weight Loss.?
I was wondering- can someone lose weight while eating the same things you usually would eat but in smaller portions? For example: If I want to eat a sandwich- bread is flour & makes you gain weight if you eat in big quantities, can't I just switch to wheat bread instead, & continue eating bread? Can I lose weight if I was to be in a all salad, fruit & water weight plan for about a month & then go back to eating regular without gaining weight?
What about diet pills, natural teas, anything that helps you melt some pounds while doing exercise & eating healthier, what's the best OVER THE COUNTER- not any that I have to purchase online. What do you guys recommend?
Thanks you guys.
-
ANSWER:
As far as bread goes, you don't have to stop eating it-your body needs the simple carbohydrates it provides. You could however switch to a wheat grain bread that has some fiber in it to help keep you fuller longer. That in itself would definately help.
Reducing your portion sizes to proper amounts will definately help you lose weight. Be sure not to drop below 1,200 calories per day however, that can alter your metabolism and actually can cause you to gain weight, becasue it puts your body into conservation mode.
If you were to choose to go to a vegetarian diet like that you would need to be sure to supplement it with protein and fats. Your body need these each day for basic health and nutrition. Fats are necessary for some vital nutrients to absorb into your body and for proper brain function, just consume them in moderation. Protein is necessary for muscle, skin, hair, and just general health. So if you go that route be sure to keep your body fed properly. That type of diet is not usually sustainable by most people, and when you finished you will most likely return to old habits and gain the weight back. The best bet is to simply refine your eating habits and start making healthier choices.
For diet pills, they are all stimulant based. They increase your blood pressure and heart rate much like caffeine would. This over time may make you lose weight, but again it will only be temporarily. Your body cannot handle that chemical stimulation over a long period of time without sustaining permanent damage.
The only way for sustained, healthy weight loss is to adjust your eating habits and make better choices, and to excercise. This will stimulate your metabolism to do it's job. Unfortunately there is no other way to do it that you will keep your results over the long term. Plus the upside is you will be healthier and add years to your life with this method.
Hope this helps!

QUESTION:
Is this a healthy weight loss plan?
Ok so I was reading that I should not do this but I lost 30 pounds ( 260-230) in 2months before now I'm trying to go from 230-200. I am 6'1 and muscular so at 200 I used to have a 6pack.Anyways I'm doing 1hour of cardio and only 1200 or less calories a day, divided over 4-6 meals. Online it said that wasnt healthy and I will gain the weight back but I doubt it because I'm not going to stop running and I'm going to bring my calories to 2500 once my diet is over ( 2500 for weight lifting).
ANyways basically is 30 lbs in 2 months possible or will I just end up going into starvation mode?

QUESTION:
A personalised weight loss plan.?
I know there are thousands of similar questions but if someone with a little expertise could give me some personalised assistance I would be extremely happy. My circumstances are; I'm a 19 year old Male living in the UK who is around 5'11 tall and weighs about 250 Pound, with a BMI of 35, So I am obese. I do little exercise, I walk for about an hour on workdays (about 4 days a week) and have a very iregular eating patern due to when I work. I used to bike to work which took an hour (around 8 miles with a lot of hills) and home again, so I was doing 16 miles and 2 hours of exercise a day. I stopped this about a year ago and started getting the train and my weight has increased majorly since then. I plan to start doing this again fairly soon, but my diet is another major problem which I need advising on. Could anybody make up or show me of a good online eating plan which isn't full of really obscure or unpleasent stuff. I am serious about trying to lose weight yet I am a rather fussy eater so I would prefer a plan containing normal foods if that is possible. Any other advice that could be offered is greatly appreciated, thank you.-
ANSWER:
I'm losing weight using a website called 'My Fitness Pal', its a free calorie counter. When you register you enter all your details such as height, weight, lifestyle etc and then it calculates your safe, daily calories allowance and also carbs, protein, fat etc. You then keep a food log using the database that is on there and each time you enter a food it takes it off your daily totals. If the food you have eaten isn't on the database then you just add it. You can also add recipes so you don't have to eat foods you don't like. You'll quickly learn how to make the most of your allowance by eating healthier foods! This site is also really good as you can log your exercise and it adds the calories to your totals if you want to use them. You can also keep a blog, chat on the forums and track your weight loss, If you aren't eating enough then it also lets you know.
I'm also using Paul McKenna's easy weight loss DVD. To be honest I only tried it because my partner had bought it on ebay and I was really sceptical but I can't believe at how its made me change my eating habits! I wouldn't say it hypnotises me but it sure does something!
Anyway good luck however you decide to lose weight!

QUESTION:
Supplements to help with exercise and weight loss?
Okay I got a list of supplements online that are supposed to help me gain energy and make my work out at the gym more effective (help me lose fat). are these safe to take together?
1. alpha lipoic acid
2. DMAE
3. Carnitine
4. Coenzyme q-10
5. conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)
6.Chromium
7. Gamma Linolenic Acid
8. Maitake mushroom extractI don't want to take all of these in one day if it will make me sick. I just want to lose weight the healthy way. I don't really trust weight loss pills, which is why i'd rather go to the vitamin store and buy multiple individual suppelements that are healthy and can promote weight loss in addition to my exercise and diet plan. If you can help me out that would be GREAT. I just had a baby 4 months ago and I need to get back into shape!!

QUESTION:
I need to interview someone who has had experience with one of the so called fad diets (weight w, atkins...?
I thought it would be more fun doing this online than in person...more interesting. They don't have to be long answers just little bits. The questions are...
•Why did you initially choose this diet?
•What is the basic premise of this diet/eating plan?
•What were two positive aspects of the diet?
•Were there any downsides to the diet plan? Explain.
•Did you have success on this diet?
•Are you still on the diet plan?
•Have you maintained your weight loss?
•Do you feel the diet is safe? Why or why not?
•Did you exercise while on the diet?
•Would you follow this diet plan again?-
ANSWER:
Why did you initially choose this diet? desperation - to control appetite (NO expectations of weight loss) - stopping weight gain was my only goal originally - now it's to weigh less than I did the year before
What is the basic premise of this diet/eating plan? insulin control, low carb, high fat, adequate protein
What were two positive aspects of the diet? no hunger required (high calorie) or exercise needed, appetite control
Were there any downsides to the diet plan? Explain.
first couple of days carb withdrawals & the "induction flu" sluggish headachy first few days - inconvenient, got to cook food for a varied diet (I usually cook 20-30# at time - love my rotisserie, lots of turkey)
Did you have success on this diet? great. life changing success - massive weight loss and GREATLY improved health - perfect cholesterol & low triglycerides
Are you still on the diet plan? for life (5+ years so far)
Have you maintained your weight loss? yes
Do you feel the diet is safe? Why or why not? It is if done right - too many people make up their version - usually low calorie, low fat, low carb and dangerous but most give up quickly & say it didn't work for them
Did you exercise while on the diet? disabled & unable
Would you follow this diet plan again? for a lifetimeThere is no better way to bring the body to the state of optimal health than with Atkins low carb way of eating. IF a person eats sufficient fat & protein & minimal carbs, they can become very healthy. Free of blood sugar health problems, high blood pressure, health problems associated with high cholesterol, obesity health problems. Anything less that 9 grams of carbs per hour controls insulin and is considered low carb (up to 144 grams per day).
U.S. government guidelines were changed 35 years ago to suggest we lower our fat intake & increase our carb intake. American society followed these recommendations & lowered their fat intake by 11% & increased their carb consumption. In this same time frame obesity, diabetes, heart disease, thyroid dysfunctions are all at epidemic levels. Most of this is caused by a high carb diet NOT a low carb diet. Through their direct effects on insulin & blood sugar, refined carbohydrates, starches & sugars are the dietary cause of coronary heart disease & diabetes.
Your body requires fats & protein, you will die without them. You will die if you eat protein without fat. You do not require carbohydrates. The body can manufacture all it needs from the protein/fat combination.
A low carbohydrate diet is a high fat diet. The protein should only be a little higher than adequate. Although it is completely possible to live on a fat/protein only diet for long term (as proven by research done in a hospital setting) it becomes boring fairly quickly. Luckily many vegetables & some fruits, nuts & seeds are low in carbs and greatly expand the diet. Most long term low carbers eat as many, if not more non starchy vegetables than vegetarians.
Glucose is the bodies preferred fuel (if you want to get technical, it actually burns alcohol most efficiently, but that doesn't make it any healthier for the body than carbs), the body can convert 100% of carbs, 58% of protein & 10% of dietary fat into glucose. The body can also be fueled by fat (dietary fat & fat cells) but only in the absence of carbs. Your brain actually prefers (* reference info) to be fueled by ketones (part of the fat burning process), it does require glucose also, but glucose can be easily converted from excess protein if needed or dietary fat.
Simple carbohydrates trigger insulin. High insulin levels unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels balances out other hormones & allows the body to function properly.
The link between saturated fats and heart health is based on faulty science. Dietary fat, whether saturated or not, is not a cause of obesity, heart disease, or any other chronic disease.
Plaque build up in the arteries is more attributable to carb consumption than dietary fats, which seems to be the conclusion of the following study. Carb consumption raises triglycerides & VLDL (bad cholesterol). Fats raise the HDL (good cholesterol). High triglyceride levels & low HDL levels are an indicator of plaque & glycation - the precursors to a heart attack & heart disease.
study from the Oxford group examining the postprandial (after-eating) effects of a low-fat vs. low-carbohydrate diet. (Roberts R et al, 2008)
Postprandial lipoproteins, you'd think, would be plentiful after ingesting a large quantity of fat, since fat must be absorbed via chylomicrons into the bloodstream. But it's carbohydrates that figure most prominently in determining the pattern and magnitude of postprandial triglycerides and lipoproteins. Much of this effect develops by way of de novo lipogenesis, the generation of new lipoproteins like VLDL after carbohydrate ingestion.

QUESTION:
Have you a good or bad Weight Loss story?
I am doing some research for a website I would like to publish relating to weight loss methods. I am keen to hear from real people about their personal experiences of as many different regimes as possible. These might include the many and varied diet plans, exercise and workout programs which could be anything from simply walking, to full gym membership or using celebrity DVDs. In fact, if you have achieved any dramatic weight loss results I would love to hear you story and include it in my site.
You might include a bit about yourself- age, lifestyle, starting weight, method used and result! As much detail as you are able to divulge and possibly some photos (before and after type) would make the site as interesting as possible and hopefully raise awareness of the levels of success acheived using the huge variety of methods.
Depending on the uptake, I may include an online forum for people to discuss the subject, swop ideas with each other and seek advice. Any suggestions most welcome too!
You can post your story here or alternatively email it to paul(at)joobery.co.uk If you first send me an email to say you have a story, I will send all my credentials to you before you send it- for your peace of mind.
Thank you in advance for your interest.
Paul Groundwater.
Reis, a truly inspirational story- one which will do doubt be a ray of light to many people. Thank you very much for that. If you have any more info or updates, I would delighted if you would pass them on to me! Thanks again and Well done
DH- Thank you so much for your frank and touching account. It shows in stark terms just how much a desire can turn to obsession with near tragic results. I would be very keen to include this as a reminder to readers of how anorexia doesn't just happen to "other people". Thank you once more for sharing this and well done you!!
I will re-post this question a few times to attract some more interest. With the various time zones and the sheer volume of posts on yahoo answers it is not long before a question gets lost in the crowd!-

QUESTION:
Losing weight but not losing inches?
I've been overweight for most of my life and have finally decided to take charge and commit to changing my lifestyle. A few weeks ago, I started watching my food intake, drinking only water (in lieu of pop and juice; I still have to have my milk, though) and doing more physical activity. According to the scale, I have already lost quite a bit of weight. The trouble is that I don't feel like I'm getting any thinner.I am now worried that I'm only losing lean muscle mass but retaining all of my body fat. Could this be the case? Here is a rough outline of what my diet and exercise plan has been like:
- I usually eat around 1300 calories per day. According to a few calculators I've used online, my recommended intake is close to 3000 calories per day. This seems like way too many. The problem is that I've switched to healthier foods that are low in calories. I get full before I can ever reach 2000 calories. According to FatSecret.com (the site/tool I use to track my food intake on my Blackberry), my calorie breakdown is about a 50:25:25 ratio of carbs, fat, and proteins (respectively).
- I've been doing mostly cardio workouts. My preferred exercise is jumping rope, but I also go for long walks and riding bikes (stationary and regular bikes out on trails). I also bought some resistance bands and use those for a little bit everyday to work out my biceps and triceps. I figured that if I could build some more muscle mass, I could be burning more calories while resting.
I did a search for people that are losing weight on the scale but aren't getting any smaller. There were people on the Atkin's Diet forum that talked about how doing strength training while on a weight loss diet could actually result in losing lean muscle mass. This is not what I want to happen, for obvious reasons. I want to lose my excess body fat to improve my health.
As a point of reference, I'm a 6'2" male (21 years old) and I started out at about 280 pounds. I am now down to 265 without showing any noticeable signs of weight loss. I'm hoping that as I continue on with my new lifestyle change, the weight loss will become more noticeable. Perhaps it is just a matter of me being too big before for even a loss of 15 pounds to be noticeable. I haven't felt my pants fitting any looser but when I feel my belly with a shirt on, it feels like it's flatter. When I look at it without a shirt, it looks as big as it ever has.
If anyone has any pointers that would help me start shedding fat instead of muscle, I'm all ears. Should I start doing more weight training in addition to my cardio? Or should I keep my focus on cardio to burn fat?
I apologize for the length of this question. I do appreciate any advice that anyone could offer.
Thanks!
-
ANSWER:
Sounds like you lost water weight. In order to really see results its going to take time, and perseverance. Keep at it.In order to build muscle and tone you need to do more resistance training, not just cardio. Cardio gets the heart rate up and burns fat. In order to build muscle you need to be doing resistance, and not just with the bands.
Best of luck.

QUESTION:
help on proper weight loss?
a friend of mine realy wants to lose weight but i don't think she is capable of figuring out how to and sticking with it so i said i would help her, though i am pretty clueless on the subject aswell. i am doing some research online and i think i'm almost ready to put together a schedule/diet plan for her. i just want to make sure that she is properly losing weight and that this does not have large negative effects on her health but weight loss is achieved at a decent pace. i am trying to get information on the matter from multiple sources such as my teachers, internet, and people who have been successful in weight loss. i know that everbody is different and that something that works for one person may not work for another. my friend (17) is overweight with high blood pressure and asthma. i want to make sure that i am considering everything i should be before i suggest something for her. so onto the question: what should i be considering to get her into a routine that will help her lose weight and be healthy. some things that i would like you to include is maybe good exercises for losing weight, what foods are good to eat to lose weight and how often to eat a day, nutrients needed to stay healthy while losing weight, sites/places with helpful information on the subject such as nutrient dense foods, healthy weight loss, etc. thank you.-

weight loss fears and support?
im 16 years old and i weigh 246 lbs.. i know its crazy so please dont make fun of me. but i wanna start loosing weight.. my goal is to loose 70-85 lbs in the next 6 months. is that too much if it is what is the appropriate amount. also how can i prevent excess saggy skin.. and are there free online support groups for teen girls? and does anyone know a good diet plan?-
ANSWER:
It is possible within 6 months if you work hard and are dedicated. Overall it depends on your body type and health history. Here is what you do.1. Don't count calories or worry about eating fat etc like others may say. Stick to science when it comes to fat lose, not hype.
2. Eat when hungry, eat until satisfied, and never to get full. Repeat, repeat, repeat.
3. Eat good natural foods, you need veggies, good proteins, good fats, and overall good nutrition.
4. Avoid all processed foods, all sodas, sweeteners of all kinds, soy products, and all refined foods and grains.
5. Follow a diet for your metabolism. Check out Dr. Mercola on the web ane his book on metabolism.
6. Drink good water 8-10 glasses a day
7. Exercise. Aerobic is good for your heart and to get things flowing but it won't help much for fat loss. If you aren't use to exercise, start walking daily.
8. Build muscle. Muscle will burn the fat. Do sit ups, pull ups, leg lifts, and crunches daily. Increase your intensity every week. Add different varieties about every ten days. You must keep challenging your muscles or you'll stagnant after a few weeks.
9. Find someone to help motivate and keep you going. A friend, a coach, a personal trainer.
10. keep track of your progress and don't give up.
11. Don't worry about the weight, its fat lose and health that should be your focus.
12. Keep a positive attitude. This plan works and is based on science.

QUESTION:
Weight loss and apple cider vinegar... I'm changing my diet & exercising and looking for a little "extra"...?
I have a good amount of weight to lose and I have talked to a lot of people and read a lot of information. I believe I have a good plan going but I do want to take advantage of everything that might give me an edge. I am cutting my calories (nothing too serious, I found out I was eating way too many calories for my activity level) I am planning on keeping under 1600 calories a day. I have a gym membership and am going several times a week. My dream goal would be to go daily but I live in the middle of nowhere and the place is about a 25 minute drive from here (gas!! eek!!) I am doing my best to not eat complete crap like drive thru and how I am trying to do that is planning to include more protein daily.I have been looking at diet pills and fat burners to include but I just really don't want to spend the money on something that I have no clue if it REALLY would be worth it. Looking online I found that some people swear by drinking a little bit of apple cider vinegar every day. I tried it yesterday and it didn't taste bad or anything... but is it actually doing anything for me? Anyone have any experience in this? Any tips that can help me? Any motivational stories?
Thanks!

Okay, so basically i'm on a plan to start losing weight, the plan is simple, healthy diet (ie. NO junk food at all) watching how much i eat, and exercise. My stats:
Gender: Female
Age: 17
Current Weight: 146.2 pounds
Height: 5 foot 3 inches
Body Frame (According to an online calculator): Large
Goal Weight: 115 pounds.Firstly, I do not want anyone telling me that my goal weight is unrealistic, and that it is unhealthy. It's my goal weight, and I will reach it tyvm.
I had a talk with my dad today, and he basically told me i'll never have the ideal body that i want, aka, a flat toned stomach and nice toned legs, with a gap between my thighs (i'm not looking for anorexic thin, model type legs, just well toned.)
Is he right? Or is my ideal body achieveable?

ANSWER:
That's a great start. I would also suggest you learn about an optimal diet is given the rich variety of foods available to Americans. If you eat a balanced vegetarian diet and have B12, D3, and Omega-3s (flax seed) in your diet, there is no need to eat any dairy or meat. At minimum you should cut down significantly on dairy and meat because these correlate with obesity and with the most common diseases in America.Your father is incorrect. You can have flat abs and less fat on your body. It takes a combination of diet and free weight training to do it. "Body for Life" will get you started on the weight training, but the food recommendations in this book are not healthy. I recommend a whole plant based diet for best results. I lost 80 pounds and kept it off by simply moving to a pure whole plant based diet that minimizes processed foods, oils, salt, fat, sugars, MSG, and aspartame. (Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr.)
Don't waist your time with commercial programs. Kolata (of NY Times) reported that Atkin's, Weight Watchers, and calorie restricted diets are ineffective for most people over the long-term.
The experts I read are all current researchers with peer reviewed studies in human nutrition and human health:
T. Colin Campbell
John McDougall
Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr.
Dean Ornish
Neal Barnard
Joel FuhrmanRemember that this is a lifestyle change and that it is not a temporary diet. Joel Fuhrman also writes about medically supervised water fasts (effective for weight loss and other conditions), but you would need to connect up with a good clinic. They will insist that you learn how to eat a healthy vegetarian diet with minimal dairy and meat before you sign up.
By all means, you need to make sure your coordinate your diet change with your physician who must reduce any cholesterol lowering drugs that you may be taking (statins). It's common for people to experience withdrawal symptoms from the standard American diet for the first two or three days. A vegetarian diet will lower your cholesterol and blood pressure. Most vegetarians (who eat a balanced diet) report that they feel much better after just a week on their new diet.
If you want it, you can do it. You can eat more and weigh less (Dean Ornish). The motivation is how good you feel on this diet.

QUESTION:
Is there a weight loss program for people with lots of food allergies?
I'm looking to lose about 40 lbs, but i have a work out program that ive been doing well on but i would like to get into a diet that will help also, but i have about 11 food allergies, but only 6 of them put me in high medical risk, which is lettuce (of all sorts, its a chemical inside the lettuce), whole corn (not corn syrup), Whole Pecan/Walnuts/Almonds/Peanuts, Soy Beans, Yeast (in some breads), and Milk. ( I can drink it, and have little bit in my food, but a lot of it makes me so sick to my stomach that i start vomiting, then it leads to ulcers)
i just would like to lose my 40lbs and eat healthier but at the same time not having allergy medical risks. Is there any programs or plans out there online or groups that make a good diet plan that work by me not having to digest my 6 high risk allergies?
-
ANSWER:
Aww you poor girl! I'm sorry you've got all of these allergies.
I've learned that the best way to diet is to just eat whole grain pastas/breads (if you dare touch bread that is!) , lean meats (chicken breast, 98% lean ground beef), fruits & veggies. Replace all snack foods with your favorite fruit, and you could look up diet recipes online for chicken, ground beef and vegetarian dishes that don't call for lettuce. Drink mostly water and juice sometimes, but make sure you check the sugar content of the juice before you buy it. Exercise for an hour every day, let it be walking or yoga, just any activity. Yoga is a great slow motion way to burn calories and I've found it very relaxing. Keep your diet between 1,200 calories and 1,500 calories each day.
I hope all goes well for you!

QUESTION:
Diet plan to lose weight and gain?
Hi there!
Im a 23 year old male, 5'10 with a 26% BF (thats what the online calculators tell me) weighing 84 kgs and a not-so-good diet.
I workout 4 days a week at the gym. Im getting some pretty decent muscle gains but at the same time im unhappy with my BF percentage. I have incorporated cardio (running, cycling) in my training (One hour 3 days a week).
Whats a good diet plan for me? Ive looked at the sample plans on the internet but I still thought ill ask you's too. Can any one be kind enough to put up a sample plan that'll help with muscle gain and fat loss?
Cheers!-

QUESTION:
I need a good easy and healthy diet?
I'm a little overweight and not willing to pay for a online weight loss program because i only need to loose 2-3 stone. Anyone already have a diet plan which works or has been recomended. I would love to be able to wear my summer clothes from last year nothing fits anymore. HELP!!!-
ANSWER:
Please DONT diet. Diets arent good for you because they basically screw your body around. Plus, people who diet tend to put the weight back on after and more people tend to gain even more weight. You should opt for a healthy eating plan. Its 100% about respecting your body, is ongoing and keeps you healthy.I think instead of aiming to lose weight you should aim to be healthy and "slim down". See the problem associated with weight is that it isnt an indication of how healthy or slender a person is. ALOT of people find that when they exercise and eat right they actually GAIN weight, thats because your fat is being replaced by muscle and muscle actually weighs more than fat. Think of it this way... a professional athlete could weigh in at over 100kg, sure that makes them sound like a HUGE fatty but theyre probably really healthy. Just like a supermodel can be tiny and really unhealthy because she doesnt eat right.
Thats why I always encourage people to document two things when trying to lose weight:
1. thier actual weight
2. their measurements (but, waist, hips, upper arm, thigh, calf and ankle)
I say this because although your more likely to put of weight when you build lean muscle, youll find your measurements will decrease ultimately making you look slimmer. (Confusing i know!).You should be consuming no more than 2000 calories per day. When I say 2000, I dont mean you can have them from whatever foods you like. You should now only be eating healthy... that means more fruit and veg, lean red meats and plenty of chicken and fish. Also try to eat more brown foods eg. brown bread over white bread. (its much better for you).
Its also really important to get at least 30mins of exercise everyday. This can be however you want, and yes a walk counts. If you play sport then thats great, if not then why not take one up. You could also look into getting some fitness DVDs or joining a gym.METABOLIC TRAINING WORKOUT:
Metabolic training means working out all the major muscles in your body, with as little rest during intervals as possible. It’s a mix or cardio and resistance training, which makes it the best workout to tone and sculpt your body.THE RULES:
1. There are 7 exercises in the circuit, they should all be done in the correct order
2. Once you’ve finished one workout try to move to the next as quickly as possible.
3. The workout takes about 15-20 mins. Start out doing it every second day. The, after a week you might feel fit enough to run through it twice in one session.

QUESTION:
Severe weight loss....?
I am 19 and 5 foot 1 and i weigh 280. I have tried walking sports and rabbit food. does anyone know any diet plan that doesn't make me have to cut out all the good foods? I cant afford something like jenny craig or weight watchers. i want something i can do at home and monitor online. Does anyone know anything like that?-
ANSWER:
You need to have someone that is able to monitor your progress. Monitoring your own progress means that you have to be super dedicated and conscientious about wanting to lose weight and staying to the plan. Most people need someone to watch them. A suggestion is to talk with a dietician or a nutritionist or someone like that whom can guide you along an appropriate plan.
