Weight Loss Diet Plans That Work

There is a fundamental problem with diets for quick weight loss and that's they're usually based on cutting as many calories as possible, and this can be dangerous and ineffective. While cutting calories will indeed cause a person to lose weight, calories need to be cut in a responsible and intelligent way. Many diet plans fail to think about the differences from one human body to the next. Diets for quick weight loss sometimes force dieters to keep unrealistic diets that force the body into a starvation mode, weakening tissues and organs. Even if these diet plans don't physically harm or fatigue their users, they won't result in long term weight loss. The body will simply pack on more weight than before to make up for the lost nutrition during the diet period.

However, there are such things as diets for quick weight loss that work. Some diet plans are based around more than straight calorie cutting or broad, generalized concepts about how fat is stored and burned. Instead, these diet plans are based on the individual needs of the dieter.

One example of such a diet plan is the DNA diet. DNA diet plans take various factors of an individual's health into account, including the individual's genetic predisposition to weight loss or weight gain. They may also take factors like height and health history into account to ensure a balanced, even, and individualized diet plan for each dieter.

These types of diets for quick weight loss stand a better chance of success due to their high level of specificity. One user's diet plan won't match up with another user's, but all plans are designed to give the body optimal levels of nutrition while encouraging weight loss.

Before using any diets for quick weight loss, a person should research each option and choose one that's both specific to his or her needs and logically effective. DNA diets are a great option and are some of the best diets for quick weight loss available in the modern weight loss market.

If you are looking at a very strict and forward weight loss and workout plan I highly recommend P90x. This program lasts 90 days and comes with a 90 day meal plan to follow as well. The workouts are great and the program teaches you how to eat correctly & the workouts are very similar to having a personal trainer.

It is cheaper than most other weight loss plans out there that seem to lack direct workout regiments. If you would like to try it out: Youtube P90x videos and you’ll get a good idea of what to expect. The program comes with a pack of dvd workouts - cardio/ yoga/ polymetrics/ abs/ arms etc. all ranging from 60 minutes to 15 minutes. Depending on what you’re looking at doing (loosing weight/ gaining muscle) they have a list on what workouts to do on what days.

    • ANSWER:
Read labels, read labels, read labels. Watch your fat intake, less than 15 grams per meal. Don't concentrate on carbs. You need carbs to burn bad carbs. Also eat green, raw veggies. That's helped me lose 35 lbs. and keep it off. Moderation is good.

  8. QUESTION:
Any good weight loss plans that actually work?
What are some great diets/exercising plans that actually work and help you lose weight fast?

    • ANSWER:
There are several dietary changes you can make that should have you seeing results right away:

*Cut out all processed, refined white flour products (breads, crackers, pastas, etc.) and replace them with whole grain versions ("whole grain" should be the first item on the ingredients list)
*Drop the overprocessed junk foods - including chips, candy, cookies, soda, etc. Replace them with healthy snacks like fresh fruit or small portions of nuts
*Eat only when you're truly hungry and listen to your body while you're eating so that you don't overeat
*There's also some surprising new research about how the human body isn't designed to process dairy and animal proteins. If you have the willpower, sticking with a healthy vegan diet that's heavy on the beans and plant-based proteins is a great way to lose weight quickly.

As for exercise, the best type of exercise is one that you can stick with. I absolutely hate running on the treadmill, but put me in an hour and a half long hip hop dance class and I'll push myself until I can't move anymore. Find something that you enjoy and you won't have any trouble forcing yourself to go every day.

However, it's not uncommon for women to have trouble losing weight with just diet and exercise alone. The body is more than just a calculator - meaning that there's more that goes into losing weight than just calories in versus calories out through exercise. If you're having trouble losing weight, you might want to check with your doctor - there may be an underlying condition like hypothyroidism that's preventing you from losing weight. I'm also a huge fan of natural, plant-based supplements that help boost energy and metabolism. Just check with your doctor before you start taking anything new - especially if you're already on any prescription medications.

      Hope this helps!

  10. QUESTION:
Does the Nutrisystem Weight Loss Diet Program really work?
I plan on getting on the weight loss program in November (after having a baby). I would like to know if it really works???!!!! Just checked out their website and started looking around. I can’t find a price without letting them know my personal information. Does anyone know about how much it cost? Did it work for you? My plan is to drop about 50-60 pounds. The reason I am considering Nutrisystem is because the food is already made. With having a new baby I will be pressed for time. Please only respond if you have tried it or know someone that has. Thanks everyone!

    • ANSWER:
      Hi,
I just ordered Nutrisystem on Saturday 8/25/07 and I recieved my box of food yesterday 8/29/07. I have been on it for 2 full days! The first day I hated the first 2 things I ate and I was pretty pissed off and thought I would deffinatly quit. But today, however, everything I ate was actually really good!! I oredered the variety pack and my next month I'll get to choose which meals I like. You get ALOT of food and you eat like 6 times a day. They give you one week free...so it's 5 whole weeks of food. I paid exactly 3.90. It just was charged onto my credit card today. The people on the site are really cool and there are chat boards and free online classes. There is a lot to do on the site and it's quite fun making friends that are doing the same thing you are. I work ALOT, so I think that this is the best diet plan for me. I have gained 45 pounds since having my daughter 9 months ago (in November also). So far i feel like i have more energy and I'm happy with it. Don't just take my advice though....I've only been on it for 2 days. Best of Luck!!! : )

  11. QUESTION:
What is the best weight loss diet plan?
I am 17 years old, female. Prom is coming up in 3 months and I put on about 10 pounds over the summer that I want to take off plus a little bit more. I am 5’0 and 119 pounds. What I want to lose most, other than all around is my love handles, stomach (#1), butt (sticks out =/), and my arms are a little too fat for my body.

I am planning on going to the gym everyday for about 1.5-2 hours and eating healthy, however, I need a little help with following it and what would be beneficial and what wouldn’t.

I went to the gym today, for the first time for this diet plan/weight losing plan. I did the treadmill for 5ish minutes fast walking (warm-up/cool down) and about 10 minutes running (not SO fast, but running) and then did the sitting bike for 10 minutes/1.5 miles. It was my first day so I didn’t do much.

I am planning on eating healthy so it helps with my weight loss as well and my face.

I plan to eat Special K cereal with 1% milk in the morning (615 AM)
Lunch at school: apple and water? If I should eat more, maybe a sandwich (wheat bread with a slice of cheese since I’m a vegetarian, would that be healthy?) (1030 AM)
100 calorie pack? Or a granola bar would be healthier? (12-2ish, anytime between there)
Dinner: Indian food, but healthy, like soups and veggies.
Snacks during the day: apples, plums, oranges/tangerines/clementines, watermelon.
6 bottles of water per day.
    Not eating after 7 PM.

I am planning to go to the school gym right after school from 230-3 and then come home and go to my gym by my house from 345-5?
What machines should I do? And how long about? (How do I keep myself from getting bored=( lol)
Also like on treadmill/elliptical should I do incline/hill, if it makes a difference?

Also I have a bit of acne on my face. Will exercising and eating like that help clear it up?

When will I see results? And is it possible to lose a bit of love handles/stomach/arm fat in about less than 3 months?

Thank you so much and if you have any other experience suggestions/ideas please help. If anything is unhealthy (foods that I listed) or exercises that will not help/help please tell me, thank you =)

If you ever did a diet/exercise plan that worked/is working in about 3 months, please tell.

"Also I have a bit of acne on my face. Will exercising and eating like that help clear it up?"

Yes, think of it this way, instead of eating chips & soda, you'd be eating fruits & vegetables & drinking water... which has very little oil compared to junk food.

Specifically, sweating will open your pours up and you can wipe away all the oil pretty much. What you want to do after you sweat is rince your face with cold water.

"When will I see results? And is it possible to lose a bit of love handles/stomach/arm fat in about less than 3 months?"

You'll probably see results after a week, but your starting from square one, so it will take your body some time to get into shape but if you eat right & watch your calories, the lbs will be shedding off.

"What machines should I do? And how long about? (How do I keep myself from getting bored=( lol)"

I too have workout ADHD, so this is what id recommend:

Cardio workout for the out of shape:
Day 1: 10 minutes of treadmill, elliptical, and stationary bicycle. (30 mins total)
Day 2: 15 minutes of treadmill and elliptical. (30 mins total)
Day 3: 10 minutes of treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike & just 5 minutes of stair stepper. (35 mins total)
Day 4: 15 minutes of treadmill, elliptical, and stationary bike (45 minutes total)
Day 5: 15 minutes of treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike, then 5 minutes of the stair stepper with an additional 5 minutes of jumping rope. (50 mins total)

As you begin to get more fit, more confident in your physical health, you can begin to increase your total workouts by 5 minutes and the intensity by an extra level.

Good luck! You can make those other b*tches jealous if you stay motivated.

    • ANSWER:
Few tips to bring about weight loss as well as ensuring good health.

      1. Aerobics:
You need to work on building your heart-lung (cardiovascular) endurance. Take up any activity form cycling, to running or jogging to skiing to swimming to even brisk walking to get that gut into its original size. This kind of activity will draw upon the fat stores in the body for generating fuel to last that long. The presence of oxygen (controlled breathing during this workout, instead of huffing and puffing) will mobilize the fat to get utilized instead of stored. This will take care of the fat that lies above the muscles in the abdominal area. No amount of crunches by themselves will do this. Thankfully, any aerobic activity that elevates your heart rate can help you burn fat and take off unwanted pounds. Many experts recommend doing at least three sessions of 20 minutes of aerobic activity per week. Ideally, for long-term weight control, you should engage in at least four sessions per week, for 45 minutes each time.

      2. Weight Training:
The key here is to adopt an OVERALL weight training program so that the lean mass percentage in the entire body increases. Balance your ab crunches and leg lifts with an equal amount of effort for the lower back to ensure it is not weak. Work out the rest of the body for the best results. And of course, concentrate on technique and quality of your ab crunches and pelvic lifts, rather than higher repetitions. And remember, exercises such as these, only improve the tone and endurance of the muscles, they don’t burn fat. Where weight training is concerned, make absolutely sure that the weights are not heavy and you use the right technique while lifting, keeping back straight and tummy tucked in, not slackened.

      3. Healthy diet spread through the day, not night. Eating the right food out of habit rather than as a fad, can work wonders for an extra middle. Keep the calories light and spread out through the day rather than bunching them all at night and then sleeping on it, when the body’s metabolic rate is the slowest.

      4. Holding tummy upright
Sitting up tall and straight all day with your tummy tucked in tight can assist in firming up the muscles in the midsection, which in turn appears more slender and trim.

      1. Increase the consumption of complex carbohydrates like whole wheat, millet (jowar) and barley (bajra).

      2. Restrict refined products such as flour (maida) and its products such as bread, noodles, macaronis and pastas in regular diet.

      3. Restrict fat and cholesterol rich foods. Only non-vegetarian foods (like eggs and dairy products) are good sources of cholesterol, however saturated fatty acids present in butter, ghee, vanaspati and coconut get metabolised to cholesterol in our body.

      4. Reduce the amount of sugars consumed.

      5. Consume raw fruits and vegetables in form of salads and raitas in every meal. These provide adequate vitamins, minerals and fiber. Fiber is essential as it aids in digestion, has an effective role in managing obesity and cardiovascular problems.

      6. Limit salt intake.

      7. Have small portions of food at a time.

      8. Do not skip meals.

      9. Have regular meal timings.

      10. Do not eat while cooking and watching television.

      11. Drink plenty of water (6-8 glasses) in a day.

      12. Exercise regularly. Do brisk walking at least for 20-40 minutes in a day.

  14. QUESTION:
Can you please give me your opinion on my weight loss plan/diet?
This may be a little detailed for some but can you please bear with me as i really would like some honest opinions.

I slowly put on weight during my final years of school because i stopped sports to study and my eating habits did slip to being unhealthy.

My weight has been the same for about a year.

    I'm female, 18 and 167cm.

I have been working full time for 7 months (earning money for uni). I work an average of 50 hrs a wk. my weight has remained constant over that time even though i have been off and on trying to eat healthy and exercise more. it has actually dropped 3 kgs since i left school. BUT i have noticed that i've lost muscle tone and put on fat on my stomach. this is because i find it hard to put exercise into my day given that 2-3 dys a wk i leave home at 7.15 am and get back at 9.15pm... with an hrs break between jobs in between. i am also prone to eating badly sometimes.

    So anyway... too now.

I started the meal replacement diet optifast 5 days ago. I was 78kgs and now i am 73kgs. My diet consists of:

1/2 cup (uncooked) of porridge, made with water.
    3x cups green tea
    2x optifast shakes
    2x cups raw vegetables
about 1.5L water from the tap

which is exactly what the optifast diet recommends minus 2 tsps oil (because i don't cook the vegetables)

i feel okay but i am concerned at the rate of weight loss 1kg each day seems extreme to me. it makes me happy but i wonder if i am damaging my body?

i know that people regain the weight after going on these crash diets but i am confident that i will not because i know how to eat well and i have made a decision to ditch the foods which i know were making me fat and also my working hrs are being reduced so i will have more time to exercise (i love bike riding and lifting weights).

the quick results and convenience of this diet have made me more determined, positive and happy with myself. because i have been able to stick to the diet so far i feel more confident in my willpower. i feel like my attitude to eating has changed for the better. my friend even said that i sounded completely different and determined about my weight than ever before. i believe and have planned on eating right after i go off the shakes and having already lost weight i know that i don't need to eat bad food (where as before i would just say 'what the heck' and just eat it even though i know its not healthy).

BUT after reading reviews on the internet i am concerned that its dangerous to do this diet. what is your opinion? I would appreciate it if you read the entire thing before giving a serious answer. thank you very much in advance to any serious answerers.

    • ANSWER:
I do feel that your diet is much too low on calories and that is not particularly healthy for you. Your body will go into starvation mode and get used to managing on a very small amount of calories to try to preserve your internal organs from too much damage and when you start eating agin you will regain weight even if you are eating a healthier reduced calorie diet.
with these dieting shakes the optimum is to have 2 shakes a day plus a health main meal so that your calorie intake is around 1000 a day - yoors is more like 500 which is way too low.
If you are now mor motivated and able to control, your eating I would advise you to start slowly increasing you daily claories until you get to the 800-1000 mark, then when you reach your goal weight you can start slowly increase the calories again.
Very low calorie diets mean you body has to feed off its muscle as well as fat to get enough energy to sustain life and this includes muscles from your heart - over a period of time you can seriously undermine your long term health.
I would like to be a bit more positive and congratulate you on sorting out your weight and giving up junk food, well done for that, but dont substitute one bad eating plan with another - learn to live healthily and well and actively for long term enjoyable health.

  15. QUESTION:
    Weight Loss Diet Plan?
I am 6ft tall woman who weighs 168lbs - i would like to loose 15 - 20lbs by Halloween. I run my own business and am extremely busy so long workouts really dont work for me - does anyone have a diet plan thats easy to follow and would allow to loose that weight? also, i am vegan so hope that is not too much of a problem - thank you!

    • ANSWER:
Cut out all simple carbs including white flours, white pasta, and of course desserts. Get rid of all sugar in diet. One really good natural sweetener that's good to use if you ever get a really bad craving for something sweet that will not make you gain weight that even diabetics can use is xylitol (My personal favorite because it has no aftertaste and tastes almost the same thing as sugar except better). You can buy this from the health food store but make sure the xylitol you buy is not taken from corn. Another good one is honey and Agave syrup. Agave syrup is from a cactus plant. There's also Stevia to use as a sweetener except this has a bad aftertaste :( . All these sweeteners are natural which is good for your health unlike Splenda or Sweet n Low which can over a long period of time, turn to formaldehyde in the brain (which can kill you). Always remember to only eat fruits and vegetables, nuts, grains, and natural healthy sweeteners. Do not eat too many dairy products either. And always remember to keep it at three meals a day.

  16. QUESTION:
Good weight loss plan that includes both diet and exercise?
I have an elliptical. How much time and how many days per week on that? Also whats a good diet plan? I'm not looking for an overnight fix or fad diet. I want to eat healthy but I'm also trying to be realistic (AKA a diet consisting of salads isn't going to work for me).

    • ANSWER:
      1. Never starve yourself. Starving yourself does more harm then good. It lowers your body's metabolism and it makes your body want to store fat since its not getting any food.

      2. Have 4-5 small meals throughout the day, and make breakfast your biggest meal. This will help you to feel fuller throughout your day. Make your last meal your smallest meal.

      3. To feel more full and less hungry, make sure you are getting lots of fiber in the morning. Oatmeal is a great breakfast of choice.

      4. Make your diet consist of lots of lean protein (chicken/fish), healthy carbs (whole grain/veggies), and healthy fats (nuts/almonds). Drink a ton of water as well. Water should be one of the only drinks you are drinking. Personally, I only drink water, coffee, and occasionally skim milk.

      5. For exercise, workout at least 30 minutes each day. Lifting weights three days a week is a great way to tone your body and increase your metabolism. Running 5 days a week doing long distance runs, intervals, sprints, hills, etc. is a fantastic way to burn calories. Do different types of cardio and running throughout the week to get the best benefits possible. Take an off day once a week.

      6. Remember it is impossible to target fat loss. The most stubborn areas to lose fat are the stomach, hips, and thighs. Just work hard and eat clean and the fat will come off overtime.

      7. Keeping a log of your exercise is a great motivater to see how you are progressing. Count your calories and keep track of them if you want to too. This will help you keep to your daily calorie intake.

      8. Losing weight and being healthy is going to take time. There is no quick fix. A healthy and realistic goal is to lose 1-2 lbs. a week.

      9. Above all stay positive. Everybody wants to look and feel good and their are millions and millions of people trying to diet as we speak. Stay positive, focused, and motivated to achieve your goal and you will be very happy with your results.

I'm thinking of starting a weight loss diet and im trying to lose 40lbs.
I have a complete exercise plan but I am still confused on a specific diet plan that will help me achieve maximum weight loss..
Any good menus that have worked with anyone else?

    • ANSWER:
      Hi,

I graduated high school at 240 pounds and at 5 foot 3 that made me about as round as I was tall. I was one of those overweight teenagers who ate anything and everything without any regard to the effects it was having on my own body. Therefore, I began the diet pills, which did not work; I ate the special diet foods and even began drinking diet beverages. None of this stuff worked for me, just as it does not work for millions of overweight people. Eating less did not work and I was not one to work out or even get up and do anything remotely related to exercise. I knew I would look silly and it would hurt. I never thought or really cared about the health effects this would have on me, back then.

A year ago after a successful weight loss plan, now at 120 pounds, it is a major difference. I've lost 30 pounds in the first month. The most significant change in my life is the amount of energy I now have and the way my clothes fit loosely. Everyone close to me and people I haven’t seen in a while are amazed and tell me that I look really good. This is a life changing experience for me although at first I was skeptical about the weight loss plan.

Best of all you can eat what you most enjoyed without gaining any weight The weight loss program is affordable by all and do not need to pay a monthly fees to use it. In contrast to diet pills regime where you need to buy it on a regular basis and the amount of lose weight will reversed back when you stop consuming it.

    • ANSWER:
u have to eat healthy and cut all the candy and junk food . i know its hard but if u really want it u can do it. u have to exercise at least 30 min. a day 4-5 times a week, take up a sport to help you and it will be more fun, here's a plan to help u :-

When you feel hungry, stop and have a cup of water. Wait 5 minutes and assess whether you are really hungry or perhaps there is something else on you mind.
When you catch yourself looking for some-thing to munch on, stop yourself and do something to occupy your time. Many people tend too much when they are bored.
Remember to take it one day at a time.
If you want to snack, make sure it is a healthy, low-fat, low-calorie snack.
Remember, fat-free does not mean you can eat the whole box!
When eating fat-free products, remember to look at the serving size and calories.
Even if you're eating low fat, you must still be aware of your calorie intake. Calories can add up and you can gain weight eating low-fat and fat-free products.
When setting your ideal weight, be realistic and choose a weight that you can comfortably maintain, without much struggle, for the rest of your life.
Do not weigh yourself more than once a week.
Eat more whole foods, natural products that have not been processed.
Do some activity daily. Walking is an excellent choice and is easy on the joints. Try to work up to 30-45 minutes a day, 4-5 days a week for maximum results.
Take up a new hobby or sport. This can occupy your time and help you avoid the fridge. Many people find that when they are busy they don't have time to think about food.
Stock your cupboards and refrigerator with fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grain products and low-fat alternatives. This will make it much easier to stick to your new, healthy plan.
Try to replace high fat ingredients in your recipes with lower-fat alternatives
Saute your food in water, both, wine or juice instead of oil.
Use applesauce or fat-free plain yogurt in baked goods instead of oil.
Another weight loss tip is that use low-fat cooking spray instead of oil.
Drink at least 8 cups of water a day.
Limit caffeine intake to 1-2 cups a day.
Set small goals instead of large ones. If you need to lose 60 lbs., break it down into 10 lb. goals. When you reach that goal, and then set a new one of 10 or 12 more pounds.
When you reach your first goal, treat yourself to something special.
Always remember to lose weight for yourself, not to please anyone else.
Once a week, pamper yourself. Remember to show yourself love take time just for you.
Prepare a menu plan for the week ahead and stick to it.
Use a list when you go grocery shopping, and stick to it.
Never go shopping on an empty stomach.
Remember to pat yourself on the back for all your accomplishments, no matter how small they may be.

      exercise tips -

      1.Lifting Weights
Increasing weights you lift means you can reduce the times per week you lift them. If you lift heavy enough, you will just need to train your muscles one time per week.you can do 3 exercises in just 5 minutes.

      2. Always play sports to help you burn fat preferably tennis, swimming or lacrosse

      3. Sprinting
. Sprinting can be tough for your body but this is what builds muscles and burns fat most rapidly. It’ll also help you boost your body weight loss hormones. A couple of 60-80 feet springs will burn more calories than a full hour of walking. You could also skip, run, box or swim.

  20. QUESTION:
P90X and diet Weight Loss Plan? A little Extreme But need feedback?
Background: I am 17 years old,5 feet 9 inches, a male. I weigh 244 pounds. I am basically obese, but at the same time you can consider me as being much more athletic than a different person of my size (I can lift weights, at one point benching 250 pounds (from 130 to 250 in a year before I quit); run fast but not too much stamina, although when i jog/pace i can run 5 miles). My framework, I guess you can say that I'm big and have a lot of girth (width).

Goal: Is to get anywhere between 150 and 170 without compromising muscle, or in other words, shape the muscle that I already may have and ASAP (before summer - 3-4 months)

Diet: My plan for at least 90 days is to follow an interesting article I found (although no scholarly or endorsed if you want to call it, article still seems promising. It says an average person following this diet alone would lose approximately 20 kgs (44 pounds)) which kind of rotates meals and the nutrition a person may take in: For example,
    Day 1: Protein Day
    Day 2: Starch Day
    Day 3: Carbohydrate Day
    Day 4: Fruit Day
    Day 5: Water Day
Breakfast fruit everyday except Day 5, Lunch and supper are the same and concentrate on what they require for that particular day.
    For better details,
    http://www.dietforum.com/N-90Days-Diet.htm

OR, I can decide to eat Smart Start Cereal with 2% milk 3-5 times a day (my friend has done the smart start breakfast and ran 6 miles a day, he lost 70 pounds in a month and a half but regained all the weight back in 2 years). My plan is to to switch to a healthy eating lifestyle even when I lose all the weight so I'm not sure if I should starve myself like him.

Exercise plan: I have a program called P90X. It's a very rigorous exercise program which lasts for 90 days and involves differentiation and changes its exercise focus everyday so one doesn't get used to it and keeps on building their body at a fast rate. I'm sure there may be skeptics but there is not a single review (that I found) in which a person tries the program and says its bad (I've tried it myself for a couple of days, and it really is intense)
    This is NOT fake, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXkCBYEWm8k
P90X is a very good program and a very very rigorous program as well and I plan on using that for its 90 day program. The guy in the video seems to a on a similar note as me when he started, but I weigh approximately 20 pounds more than him

Also, I plan on running 1-2 mile(s) along with the program anywhere between 7-13 minutes per mile depending on whether I jog or run.

    1 pound=3500 calories
My plan is to eat between 1200-1500 calories MAX everyday and when working out everyday, I expect to burn 4000 calories a day (includes calories burned without exercise, like digesting or sleeping). So my calorie deficit should be 2500 calories everyday, so in 90 days or 3 months time I should be around 170-175 pounds.

Here are some of the websites I used:
    http://www.dietforum.com/N-90Days-Diet.htm

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXkCBYEWm8k

    http://calorieneedscalculator.com/index.html

    http://www.beachbody.com/product/fitness_programs/p90x.do?code=P90XDOTCOM

Feedback is greatly appreciated! This is very important for me! Thanks a lot in advance, and I hope to get some good feedback.
    =)
I forgot to add along with the diet.

I plan on drinking a whole lot of water. Approximately 2-3 liters a day

Also, I'm thinking about taking V8 equal to 3 servings of vegetables
And, as a natural cleanser, fresh pineapple and cilantro juice from a blender

    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
no doubt, you've done your homework, and it will all help, but the biggest mistake people make is they try and over complicate things. I remember days in the gym, some of the craziest routines and programs people would tell me which would create the most amazing gains. Only months later, they didn't look any different. Stick to the basics, because the biggest factor in you accomplishing your goals, is formulating new habits. Creating a healthy lifestyle has to be the foundation of creating new habits. Here is what I would suggest: For 30 days, write down everything you eat. I'm sure you'd be amazed at the amount of "unconscious" calories you consume. It will help eliminate those in-between snacking and late night snacking. A goal would be to keep your calories around 2500 per day, with 60% carbs, 30% protein, 10% fat. You'll need the energy if you're doing the exercise routines you plan on. In terms of exercise, I think the P90X is a very good program, since it focuses on the biggest factor of achieving fitness goals; muscle confusion. I'm almost 40, I've done every program you can think of, and muscle confusion works on all levels. It is intense, do what you can. Within a couple weeks, you'll be suprised how much you've progressed. I'm afraid if you're mixing P90X and running, you might get over trained, which puts the body in a state of conservation. If you're eating the proper foods, and doing your P90X, I would guarantee you will achieve the results you're looking for. Even if you do a modified version of the program, just by changing your program up, your body will react. Functional training is what allows the body to use multiple muscle groups in a given exercise, and allows the body to work on multiple planes.
Yes, drink plenty of water, write down what you eat, do your P90X, and in 90 days, you will see results, promise. Good luck, and remember, don't over complicate things.

They raise money for the good, hard-working people generous enough to market them to us.
The short, non-technical answer is NO. Particular diets do particular things that seem to make sense and seem to have some discernable effect, which is why they sell for a while and then, eventually, people get tired of what doesn't do it.
Check into books about the history of diets and weight-loss. It's a never-ending story of profit over science.

  25. QUESTION:
Are there diets & weight loss plans for people who have an inactive/sluggish Thyroid illness?
I'm 36, 5' and overweight. I NEED to loose 30 pounds. When I was younger, I would just cut back on what I ate & the pounds would come off. Now I am taking Synthroid for a very inactive thyroid, and it seems no mater how much I decrease my caloric intake, I do not loose any weight. To complicate matters, I am allergic to fish, seafood, & soybeans.... and I am single mom with a VERY limited income. I also have some back injuries which limit the amount of vigorous exercise (and pilates) that I can do. I am looking for a diet - not a work out plan. Anyone out there know of any diets that would be effective? (please don't say ask your doctor, as I can barely afford the Snythroid, let alone another doctor visit) - Thanks.
Just to verify - I have back & neck injuries which limit the amount of vigorous exercise I can do. I am not asking for a exercise program because I know my limits of what I can and cannot do without hurting myself & exacerbating my condition.... I am looking for a diet which compliment what exercise activities I can do that will work for someone with a sluggish / inactive thyroid.

    • ANSWER:
In order to lose weight, the most important factor is to create an energy deficit so that more calories are expended than are consumed as foods. However, it is essential that when you are cutting down on calories, the overall balance of your weight loss diet remains healthy. In fact, nutritionists advise against weight loss diets that cut one or more major food groups, partly because they can be monotonous and harder to stick to, but also because avoiding any food group could risk missing out on valuable nutrients. This is even true of the “fatty and sugary foods” group, as some fats are essential for good health.

I'd like a diet plan that uses minimal processed foods and doesn't take a long time to prepare. Has anyone found a diet plan that works for them? I will be incorporating some exercise as well, but I have a knee injury that prevents me from doing anything with much impact.

Look like your are very busy, but why not just Power walk 45 mins daily, but you have to walk faster, like jogging to burn FAT. And you can buy some apple, orange , can of tuna (in water), instant oatmeal (120 cal per bag), 2 boxes of eggs (hard boil), zero yogurt etc. they dont need too much time to prepare, you can hard boil 12 eggs for 2 -3 days, oatmeal, you just need add hot water for it. try to keep your cal within 1200-1400 cals, and power walk for 45 mins daily, you will lose 1 lb weekly or more. but you have to walk faster not shopping speed. 45 mins is about 5-6KM. Take care !

so i have been going to the gym for about 4 months now and have lost 31 pounds making me currently 186 pounds at 5 feet 8 inches. In the past month my weight loss has come to a halt, i believe mainly because my diet is still not great so i want to get a strict diet to follow now so i can lose these last pounds before summer. Now i am also bringing my brother, he is 260 pounds at 5 feet 8 inches as well.

So we need a diet plan for both of us to follow, it has to be cheap simple and able to put in containers and eat later as we are often not home for meals. it can include protein shakes as long as you think that we will still lose weight, for my diet i am open to using protein shakes as i am starting to focus more on building muscle but i'm not sure if protein shakes for him is good with how much weight he has to lose, but if you think otherwise from experience or because this is your profession then we are open to that.

SOOO quick recap, need a strict diet to follow to lose weight, must be cheap, simple to make with few ingredients, and able to be stored and reheated so we can bring with us to work etc.

    Thanks in advance.

Oh and we will be going to the gym 5 times a week.

  38. QUESTION:
Do you think my weight loss plan will work?
I wanna lose about 25 lbs. I'm 140 lbs and 5'2" and my goal is to be at 110 - 117 by the holidays (so I can gain it all back hahahaha XD)

I've done the diet before. It's called "the rotation diet". You eat 600 calories for 3 days, 900 for 4 days, 1200 for a week, take a week off restrictions, and the repeat as many times as you want until you lose weight. I did it sometime last year, and lost about 6 lbs in 2 weeks, tops. And the weight stayed off. I ate small meals, but of healthy foods. And those amounts of calories and did maybe a half hour of DDR with it. I lose weight, and when I got off the diet, the weight stayed off. It worked fast, too. It was thought up by a doctor so.....I only plan on doing it twice (600, 900, 1200, week off, and then repeat once) and doing 45 minutes of activity, including strength training, which I didn't do last time. And then after I lose some weight from that, I'll pick up my caloric intake to around 1500 daily.

    Is this ok?

http://www.chasefreedom.com/rotationdiet.html There is a link to the actual diet plan

I know it's unhealthy, but I don't wanna hear about that please. I just wanna know if I'd lose. As I said, I've done it before.........

    here is my normal workout:

After school/before dinner I have two options that I do:

    1. This may sound silly, but my sibling and I like to pretend we're performing on stage like a band or something, and we just sing along to songs, but I do alot of running, jumping and dancing. It;s usually about an hour to an hour and 20 mins we do that, and I don't jump and stuff the whole time, I gotta catch my breath a little and all.......so it's probably around 30 - 45 minutes of that.....(it's fun so I'm more likely to do it and not get too bored or anything)

    2. 45 minutes of cardio..........i usually do some on my bike and treadmill, mixing it up daily.......i may also start doing intense DDR on some days too. since I can't increase how long I do it, after two weeks of my normal speed on my, let's say my bike for an example, (30 - 36m) i'll increase my speed a little bit.

I'll do that Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun

And then on Tues, Thurs and Sat:

I'll do my "concert" routine after school, and after dinner I'll do 30 minutes of strength training with things like:

Squats (i'll be doing different types, increasing reps every week)
Walking lunges (50 on each leg, increasing by 15 each week)
Pilates (I'll be doing different pilate routines for abs)
Push-ups (various types, also increasing reps)
    Planks (various moves)

    Etc etc

And also in the evenings, after dinner, almost every day, my sibling and I RP (roleplay) in our bedroom, and there's alot of walking and running (mostly walking) and eventually we're gonna be fighting enemies and stuff so I'll be kicking and punching and jumping and running alot.
    OH and i'm a vegetarian

***My sister is telling me that the "concert" won't burn fat OR barely any calories at all
I do alot of jumping and running around and stuff when I do it. Doesn't that count for something? Will the concert do anything worth my time??***

    • ANSWER:
Keeping a food journal helps you pin point your eating pattern and will enable you to easily modify it. If possible, have your Registered Dietitian review your journal.
Most authorities recommend 30 - 60 minutes of physical activity a day to stay healthy. Also try adding weight-bearing exercises at least 2 times a week. This will help burn some of the unwanted calories.

  39. QUESTION:
Acai berry and Colon Cleanse weight loss diet...?
Does this diet/weight loss thing work? And does it work if you have different forms of it for instance i have acai berry pills im not sure what kind and i have colon cleanser from vitamin cottage, if i follow the diet plan that the little known dynamic duo diet at http://www.sallystips.com/
will it still work, even if i have different pills?
    thanks

    • ANSWER:
It will not work even if you have the same pills. These "magical" weight loss pills only work to reduce your water weight temporarily. Your weight might be lower on the scale for a while, but you will have the same amount of body fat. Eat healthy, watch your calories and exercise in order to lose weight permanently. Doing things the "hard way" is worth it.

  40. QUESTION:
will this weight loss plan work?
I am starting a new weight loss "diet" that I have created and I want to get some feed back on it before I start. Iam currently 5'1 and weigh around 130, so I would like to lose about 20 lbs.

Ive tried crash diets and I realise now how stupid they are and I was. Anyways, here is the plan:

Morning: One large fruit smoothie consisting of milk, bananas, blueberries, almonds, strawberries , yogart and maybe some soy powder.

Lunch: One HUGE chicken salad with some cheese (not a lot), chicken, pecans, lettuce, mushrooms, tomatoes and peppers.

Afternoon snack: Soup (I get hungry the most in the evenings)

Dinner: Alternate between brown rice mixed with fried veggies and sweet and sour sauce, whole grain pasta and something that consists of many things like a stew or stirfry.

I am counting it to come out around 1000-1200 calories a day, but since I am so short and not big boned, it will fill me up a lot. I also am currently traveling, so I dont go to a gym, but I walk to and from a few hours everyday.

I gain weight very easily and lose weight very easily to.

    Looking to hear some feedback!

    I

    • ANSWER:
Be careful with the Soup - unless you make it yourself and know exactly what you are putting in it b/c soup is high in sodium and preservatives. Just b/c it is liquid and not filling, doesn't mean it won't work against you.

Also, Brown rice is better than white - but be careful with rice, pasta, white veggies, limit them as much as possible and if you are gonna eat them, do it earlier in the day.

Eat your bigger meals and meals that are kinda iffy (like the rice) early in the day - the earlier you eat them, the more time your body has to work them off. Eat your smallest meal at dinner time and make it a salad or something high in protein or maybe even switch the smoothie from breakfast to dinner - you don't want to carry all that food / excess around when your not so active or will be going to bed soon.

Exercise at least 30 min a day (minimum) and get that heart rate up!

    thank you!!

    • ANSWER:
I have tried many many many diets and exercise plans. None of it ever worked, especially on my small budget. So I will tell you what worked for me, pasted from another question i just answered:

If you want to lose weight efficiently and healthily, try HIIT: High Intensity Interval Training. Google it for more information. It's very very effective and takes very little time. Also, eating right will help. Lots of protein. You need protein in each meal. 6 small meals a day. You should always have your stomach 1/3 of the way full, because it goes into starvation mode when it's empty and starts storing fat. Most can't afford that and don't have time, so you can substitute every other meal with a protein shake (not my choice) or, as I do, juicing fresh fruits and vegetables. Nutrition is very important in losing weight.

But, yeah, look into HIIT. I'm telling you, works wonders! The information is free and you can use just about anything (running, jump rope, elliptical, stationary bike, etc.)

I'll go into a little more detail on the proper nutrition. Here is an example of what my daily meal plan is:

      Breakfast:
Egg whites, two slices 100% whole wheat toast, one serving of fuit, glass of ice water.

      Midmorning:
Yogurt (NO high fructose corn syrup), serving of almonds, serving of fruit. Ice water.

      Lunch:
Tuna salad (one TBS of low-fat mayo is enough), one serving of veggies mixed in, one serving of fruit, ice water.

      Midafternoon:
Juice. (usually whatever i have, i am on a low budget. apples, lemon, asparagus, tomato, etc.) and ice water.

      Dinner:
Salmon, baked sweet potato, one serving veggies, ice water.

I don't agree with a lot of Bill Phillips' nutritional ideas, but he does give a good guideline for meal plans. Basically pick a lean portion of protein for each meal, a portion of carbohydrates(bread and pasta aren't acceptable. we're talking potato, sweet potato, apple, etc.), and a portion of vegetables. And you must must must drink lots of water.

P.S. It is very hard to lose weight with aerobics. Trust me! It takes so much longer than high intensity excercises. You will be so frustrated and so much of your time will feel wasted. I mean, running is great for you! But, it will not get you the results you want. E-mail me if you want to know anything else! I am totally glad to help in any way! I've been there and know just how badly you want your goals. amuffledscream@gmail.com

      Good luck!

And also have a sugar-free jello which is only 5 calaries, and some berries.

      Snack- fruit

Alternative- 100 calarie snack packs ( comes in chips, doritos, cheetos, cookies, bars, etc.. )

Dinner- Grilled chicken/ salmon, with 1 1/2 cups of vegetables.

  43. QUESTION:
Which diets/eating plans/weight loss strategie/s worked for you?
I'm a nurse and I'm interested in learning how to help my overweight patients with advice on diet and exercise etc (no, I'm NOT going to force it on them), but some of them DO ask for advice. Of course, I would always ask if they want to be referred to a dietician, physio, etc but I want to learn more about REAL people's experiences. Which diets/eating plans helped you? How did you re-educate yourself about food/exercise/lifestyle changes? Did any organisations help you like Weight Watchers, if so was it worth the money? Did you drop any particular foods/introduce any new foods that really satisfied you and/or you think helped you lose weight? Did you find programs like The Biggest Loser helped/motivated you? If not did ANYTHING motivate you, or did you just decide to 'go it alone' one day? Did you find eating 3 meals a day satisfied you, or did you eat multiple smaller meals? What percentage of your plan was psychological - did you get any counselling etc?
I am really concerned about the amount of people being admitted to hospital who are not only overweight but extremely obese, with multiple health problems. There has been much debate lately against discrimination against fat people, let me make it clear: I am not on here to debate discrimination or not (no-one should be discriminated against for ANY reason in my opinoin.) I am only interested in helping people who will die at an early age unless we health professionals really try to motivate/make them do something about it. To be honest, as a nurse I feel helpless to help them sometimes; just giving meds and doing BPs isn't solving any problems. I feel I should be doing more.
Not all questions have to be answered; any information is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    • ANSWER:
I think overweight people have underlying problems, beside the fact that they’re overweight (like a food addiction or a medical problem). I’ve never been overweight because if I have 10 pounds to lose, then I lose 10 pounds and I don’t wait until I need to lose 20, 30 or 40 pounds. 10 pounds to lose is hard enough for me, I really don’t ever want to have to lose more than that. A few pounds can easily creep up on you but above 10 pounds, you’re either in denial or you choose to ignore it for some reason so you need more help than just a diet plan and a work out plan.

So speaking for myself and my little (still hard) 10 pounds loss…

      Which diets/eating plans helped you?

Mostly I just tried to acquire knowledge. Learning about nutrition, eating and cooking healthy, counting calories, learning about calorie intake and calorie expenditures, buying good healthy cookbooks and kitchen appliances (steamer, rotisserie, slow cooker, Turbo cooker, grill, pressure cooker…). I buy my own food at the grocery store and cook my own meals. I think it would be harder for somebody to lose weight, if they don’t cook their own meals. I can never feel satisfied with prepared meals or restaurant food unless they have too many calories, and then I could not lose weight eating those. Also cooking, for me, is part of the eating process. You taste and nibble and basically eat with your olfactory glands (sense of smell) before you even sit down to eat, and then you eat much less because it’s like you’ve already eaten somewhat while cooking.

How did you re-educate yourself about food/exercise/lifestyle changes?

I had to educate myself, not re-educate, since I did not know much about “food/exercise/lifestyle changes” in the first place. I knew a little about cooking but not really about food. So I bought books. Cooking books, exercise books, food counts books, Pilate books. I’m a natural autodidact, always trying to learn stuff every day. If I need to do some accounting, I’ll buy books about accounting, learn accounting and do my own accounting. As long as something does not bore me, I can learn it. But I understand that some people do not like books and would rather have somebody else tell them what they should do, what they should eat, what exercise they should do, etc…

Did any organizations help you like Weight Watchers, if so was it worth the money?

I never needed organizations or spent any money but I heard that they can really help people who are obese. I never heard anybody complaining about Weight Watchers being a waste of money. I think it’s a personality thing. Some people need the support of a group, others don’t.

Did you drop any particular foods/introduce any new foods that really satisfied you and/or you think helped you lose weight?

I never really dropped any particular food completely but learning about nutrition (reading labels), calorie content and how many miles you need to bike to burn the calorie content of a big cookie…really made me think twice about eating junk. I switched from drinking whole milk to drinking 1% and from eating white bread to eating 100% whole wheat bread. Also, now, I favor fulfilling brown rice and pasta, instead of the white kind and I explored further into the fruit/veggies area (like kale).

Did you find programs like The Biggest Loser helped/motivated you? If not did ANYTHING motivate you, or did you just decide to 'go it alone' one day?

My biggest motivation was hitting 130lbs on the scale (I know, I sound vain). I think everybody needs a threshold weight. When I was a teenage girl, it was 110lbs, as an adult woman, it was 120lbs, after I had kids, it was 130lbs and now I just want to stabilize at 125lbs.
Another good motivation to exercise is when you get so out of shape that just going up the stairs is like “gosh!” and your grocery bags gets heavy, and anything physical, all day long, gets hard to do so you really want to build up some muscle mass to make everything easier.
Once, I got into great physical shape in two months just for a one week ski trip. Sadly, I stopped exercising after that great ski trip and lost weight just by losing muscle mass. Obese people get great motivation when their life starts to depend on it. I notice that people sort of “wake up” when they hit the overweight zone or the obese zone according to the BMI. Some even start to panic when they get at the top of the healthy zone and they’re like “I’m 149lbs” because they cannot be 150lbs and change zone!

Did you find eating 3 meals a day satisfied you, or did you eat multiple smaller meals?

When I was counting my calorie intake and exercising, 3 healthy good meals (1,200 calories) satisfied me with emphasis on fruits/veggies, fiber, whole wheat whatever, lean meats, egg whites…If I don’t exercise, I don’t need more than 2 meals, like a late morning breakfast and an early evening lunch and maybe with and early morning fruit juice and a late evening yogurt…

What percentage of your plan was psychological - did you get any counseling etc?

This does not apply to me, I think. You don’t need counseling because you have 10 pounds to lose. But I would say that very overweight people need to find out why they overeat. When I see an obese person eating a lot of food at restaurants, it’s obvious it’s not about the food. It’s like people with a drinking problem…it’s not because they’re thirsty.

  49. QUESTION:
What is a good weight loss plan for someone that doesn't eat a lot of meat?
What diet plan works best for someone who doesn't eat a lot of meat?
I am trying to lose weight, but have very poor eating habits. I don't have the money for a nutritionist, and also have to think of my kids and what they want to eat. I don't like meat, and don't eat it very often, which leads me to believe that I may be missing some important components(protein, and others) from my diet. I do take a multi-vitamin. I would like to start this ASAP. Does anyone know any websites that would give me diet/meal plans that are both kid friendly and healthy. It seems that all we eat are chicken nuggets, fish sticks,a nd pizza!

    • ANSWER:
I am like you , in that I don't like any red meat although I will eat turkey and chicken. My diet is eating lots of salads- which are very healthy and fortifying if you use the right ingredients. My favorite is grilled chicken strips, mushrooms, tomatoes and red onions over a bed of mixed greens. All of the necessary ingredients are there. To find good kid friendly web site to help you, I suggest you simply go to Google search with you information and I'm sure you'll find something.
